GROUND ELECTROMAGNETIC SURVEY
ARSENIC LAKE NORTH PROPERTY
INTRODUCTION
The Arsenic Lake claims (1189329 and 1189331) in Strathy Township were staked in early January 1992 when the Ontario Government lifted the portion of the Indian Caution which had covered Strathy and two other townships in the Temagami area. Because of the Caution, the area received little attention during the gold exploration boom of the late 1970's and the 1980's.
These claims are contiguous with the west boundary of the Stroud Resources property on which a reserve of 314,000 tons grading 0.217 oz Au/ton has been defined, and is located approximately 2,000 west of the shaft site. No work is recorded on the claims in the Toronto assessment work files.
LOCATION
The claims are located in central Strathy Township in the Temagami area of the Sudbury Mining Division. It is recorded on the Strathy claim sheet (G-3451) and is situated within the NTS quadrangle 31- M/4. The ground is found at latitude 47 05'40" and at longitude 79 48'30".
ACCESS
Highway 11 passes northerly through the eastern part of the township, and is located 3,000 feet east of the group. A 1,000 foot long bush road from Highway 11 provides access to the east end of Arsenic Lake, from which point a 2,000 foot canoe trip accesses the property. The town of Temagami is located 3 kilometers south of the bush road in the southeastern corner of the township and is approximately 80 kilometers north of North Bay (via Highway 11) and 415 kilometers north of Toronto (following Highways 400 and 11).
CLAIM INFORMATION
The claims, which are the subject of this report, are numbered 1189329 and 1189331. They are recorded in the name of Mike Caron of P.O.Box 362, Porcupine, Ontario, PON ICO.
SUMMARY OF PREVIOUS WORK
A review of the Toronto assessment files indicates that no work has been filed on the claim. In 1963, a combined airborne magnetic and

electromagnetic survey flown by Geophysical Engineering and Surveys Limited for Goldfields Mining Corporation Limited traversed to within 1,000 feet of the northern boundary of the claim group. The electromagnetic unit (a vertical 1100 cycle transmitting coil on one wing and a vertical receiving coil on the other wing) outlined a northwest striking, 5,000 feet long electromagnetic trend which is located 1,300 feet north of the claims. As well, an elliptical 7,000 gamma magnetic high is centered approximately 1,300 feet north of the claim group, indicating that the property is probably on the south flank of this magnetic high.
Geologic Data Inventory Folio 201 indicates that Manitoba and Eastern Mines Ltd. reported work between 1905 and 1908, and between 1934 and 1937, which probably included trenching, stripping, and assaying. However, no record of this work have been accessed, and no drilling has been catalogued.
SURVEY INFORMATION
The survey was run with a Ronka EM16 manufactured by Geonics Limited. The instrument is a sensitive receiver which measures the in phase and quadrature components of secondary fields which have been induced in conductive bodies in the ground by VLF-transmitting stations which operate for communications with submarines. The in phase can be read from +150 to -150 per cent, to an accuracy of one unit, and the quadrature can be read from 4-45 to -45, to a one unit accuracy.
A grid with a base line oriented 322 degrees astronomic and consisting of 6,418 feet of line was cut, chained, and picketed. The picket lines (5,056 feet) were surveyed with readings taken at 100 foot intervals, with the operator always facing easterly, perpendicular to the direction to the transmitting station. For this survey, the station in Maryland (NSS), which transmits at 21.4 khz., was used.
The linecutting was carried out on August 7 and 8, 1993 by Mark Cameron and D.M. Cameron(supervisor) , and on August 13, 14, 15, 16(1/2 day), and 17(1/2 day), 1993 by Gordon Cameron and D.M. Cameron (supervisor), all of 2517 Cavendish Drive, Burlington, Ontario, L7P 4J4. The electromagnetic surveying was completed by Gordon Cameron and D.M. Cameron (supervisor), both of the above address, on August 19, 1993.
INTERPRETATION
The grid was established with a base line at 322 degrees astronomic so that the picket lines would transect parallel or subparallel structures to the 346 degree trend of the Stroud-Leckie-Penrose (Big Dan) gold deposit, as well as obtaining a rather acute look at
any structure which could be paralleling the axis of Arsenic Lake.
Weak VLF-EM crossovers were identified on three southern lines. The responses are broad and asymetrical on the in phase and considerably weaker and broad on the quadrature, which follows the in phase. The location of the two southerly crossovers corresponds in part to a topographic break adjacent to swampy areas, which are perhaps clay based. An explanation for the northern crossover is not obvious from the results of the prospecting and the mapping.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The crossovers should be examined in the field to determine if there is a specific bedrock structural cause for the topographic breaks. The broad, weak northern crossover has no ready topographic explanation. It should be examined in the field and have its importance assessed as the property is explored with other geophysical and geochemical methods.
