OVERVIEW

Founded in 1940 by Dr. José A. Grifols Roig, a hematologist and scientist, Grifols is a Barcelona, Spain-based global healthcare company that strives to improve the health and wellbeing of the global population through the production of life-saving protein therapies for patients.

Grifols also provides hospitals, pharmacies and healthcare professionals with myriad tools requisite to deliver proficient and optimal medical care.

Grifols has three primary divisions -- Bioscience, Diagnostic and Hospital – which develop, produce, and market the company’s products and services to medical professionals in more than 90 countries.

PROBLEM

Facing increased demands for plasma and the vitally important plasma proteins and antibodies that help sustain the human body’s essential functions, Grifols was in need of participants to donate their plasma and partner with the company in the cycle of giving.

Challenged to find donors to offer life-giving plasma, the healthcare giant offered compensation to donors for their time spent during the plasma procurement process, which included the industry-standard two plasma donations within a seven day period.

To reach these goals, mPulse empowered Grifols to initiate a Mobile Alert system that enabled donors to join a mobile club at the donor center location they frequent.

SOLUTION

mPulse worked with Chris Barber, General Manager of the NW Division of Grifols, as well as the Debra Newman, Associate Director of Marketing at Grifols, to plan and execute a mobile alert system to notify and engage with donors via text messaging.

Participating supporters would receive between 1–4 text messages per month about events and donor compensation amounts.

Donors learned about the program and the ability to opt-in to mobile alerts through signage posted inside the

donor centers requesting prospective plasma donors to enroll if interested in receiving alerts about special events at the facility.

The effort was designed to:

• Deliver efficient and affordable paperless updates and alerts to subscribers

• Engage with donors consistently while also allowing for donors to optout of the alert program if

desired

• Build upon Grifols’ reputation for exceptional professional care, conduct, and communications

CONCLUSION

In February of 2013, program enrollees began receiving and responding favorably to text alerts provided by Grifols.

mPulse’s HIPAA compliance mobile messaging platform was used to build campaigns that leveraged intelligence related to location, time, and demographics to drive engagement with local donation centers.

Since its initiation, more than 7,700 donors have joined the text campaigns and over 300 campaigns have been deployed.

The program quickly demonstrated to Grifols the cost effectiveness and efficiency of text alerts in messaging their donors with immediacy by using the most dynamic messaging tool available today.
