Transcript

This popular folk song was written in recognition of the province’s primary resource—fishing. The bait skiff is a small boat used for catching fish bait. Petty harbour is a fishing village a short distance from St. John’s, the province’s capital city.

The piece should be performed in a cantabile manner with careful attention to overall balance, espe-cially where countermelodies are introduced.
