1. MINIMUM INLET (SUCTION) PRESSUREIn general, the minimum suction pressure requiredis that which provides adequate NPSHA necessary tofeed the pump. The required NPSHr, expressed infeet, can be found on the performance curve for thepump at the specic duty point. It is recommendedthat the NPSHA exceeds the NPSHr by a minimumof (2) two feet as a safety margin and to insure longterm reliable performance of your e-SV pump.

NOTE: THE NPSHA MUST E CALCULATED FORTHE SPECIFIC SSTEM TO WHICH THEe-SV PUMP IS TO E INSTALLED. PLEASECONTACT OUR DEALER/DISTRIUTOR IF
OU REUIRE ASSISTANCE.
2. SUCTIONIn theory, a pump could suck water from a source
located 10.33 meters lower than the pumps owninstallation level, but this does not happen becausethe pump offers its own intrinsic ow resistance,moreover the suction capacity is reduced as a resultof ow resistance in the piping, height difference,liquid temperature and elevation above sea level.
A wrong choice in the altimetric placement of thepump could lead to cavitation.
With reference to Figure below and given Z as themaximum height the pump can be installed to, withreference to the level of the liquid source it can bestated the following:
In SI Units:
Z = Pb 10,2 NPSH Hf - Hv -0,5 [m]Pb = Barometricpressure[bar](absolute)
NPSHr= NPSHrequiredbypump[m]
Hf = Losses[m]insuctionpiping
Hv = Vaporpressure[m]atapplicationtemp[C]
1,5 =1,5[m]safetyfactor
In English Units:
Z = Pb NPSHr Hf Hv 1.5
Pb =Barometricpressure[ft](absolute)
NPSHr=NPSHrequiredbypump[ft]
Hf =Losses[ft]insuctionpipingHv =Vaporpressure[ft]atapplicationtemp[F]
1.5 =1.5[ft]safetyfactor
With meanings given in the above table it can bestated that:If Z 0 pump can work with a maximum suctionheight equal to Z.

4. PIPING
Discharge and suction piping should be no smallerthan the respective pump opening and should bekept as short as possible, avoiding unnecessaryttings to minimize friction losses.
NOTICE: PIPING MUST E INDEPENDENTL SUP-PORTED AND NOT PLACE AN PIPINGLOADS ON THE PUMP.
If suction piping larger than pump suction is re-quired, an eccentric pipe reducer,WITH THESTRAIGHT SIDE UP, must be installed at the pumpsuction.
If the pump is installed below the liquid source,install a full ow isolation valve in the suction pipingfor pump inspection or maintenance.
NOTICE: DO NOT USE THE ISOLATION VALVE ONTHE SUCTION SIDE OF THE PUMP TOTHROTTLE PUMP. THIS MA CAUSE LOSSOF PRIME, EXCESSIVE TEMPERATURES,DAMAGE TO PUMP AND VOID WAR-RANT.
If pump is installed above the liquid source, the
following MUST be provided:To avoid air pockets, no part of the suction pip-ing should be above the pump suction.
On any horizontal piping sections, slope pipingupward from liquid source.
All suction pipe joints MUST be airtight.
Use a foot valve for priming, or for holdingprime during intermittent duty.
The suction strainer or suction bell MUST be at least3 times the suction pipe diameter.
Insure that the size and minimum liquid submer-gence, over the suction inlet, is sufcient to preventair from entering through a suction vortex. See typi-cal suction piping Figures 1 through 4.
Install a discharge check valve, suitable to handle theow and liquids, to prevent backow.
Install an appropriately sized gate valve, AFTERthedischarge valve, to regulate the pump capacity, forpump inspection and for maintenance.
When a pipe increaser is required, install betweenthe check valve and the pump discharge.
5. SHAFT ALIGNMENT MOTOR TO PUMPWhen the pump is purchased less motor, the pumpwill be supplied with a motor assembly shim posi-tioned between the motor adapter and the coupling.
To assemble the motor to the pump remove theplastic shipping straps, the 2 stainless steel couplingguard halves, and the expanded polyurethane.
Insure that the motor assembly shim is properly posi-tioned between the coupling and the motor adapter.If the motor assembly shim is not available, a 0.203"(5 mm) shim may be used to locate the pump shaft

Disconnect and lockout electri-cal power before installing orservicing pump.
Electrical supply MUST match pumps name-plate specications. Incorrect voltage can causere, damage motor and voids warranty.
Motors equipped with automatic thermal pro-tectors open the motors electrical circuit whenan overload exists. This can cause the pump tostart unexpectedly and without warning.
Use only stranded copper wire to motor and ground.Wire size MUST limit the maximum voltage drop to10% of the motor nameplate voltage, at the motorterminals. Excessive voltage drop will affect perfor-mance and void motor warranty. The ground wire
must be at least as large as the wires to the motor.Wires should be color coded for ease ofmaintenance.
Three phase motors require all leg protection withproperly sized magnetic starters and thermal over-loads.
PERMANENTLY GROUND THEPUMP, MOTOR AND CONTROLSPER NEC OR LOCAL CODES BE-FORE CONNECTING TO ELEC-
TRICAL POWER. FAILURE TO DO SO CANCAUSE SHOCK, BURNS OR DEATH.
Connect the electrical leads to the motor, as follows:
Single Phase Motors Connect the LACK wire tothe LACK motor wire. Connect the WHITE wireto the WHITE motor wire. Connect the GREENwire to the GREEN motor wire.

NOTICE: PUMP MUST E COMPLETEL PRIMEDEFORE OPERATION.
DO NOT OPERATE PUMP AT ORNEAR ZERO FLOW. TO DO SOCAN CAUSE ExTREME HEAT,DAMAGE TO THE PUMP, INJURYOR PROPERTY DAMAGE.
Start the pump, keeping the on-off valve down-stream from the pump closed. Open the on-off valve
gradually. The pump must run smoothly and noise-lessly. If necessary, reprime the pump. Check the cur-rent absorbed by the motor and, if necessary, adjustthe setting of the thermal relay. Any air pocketstrapped inside the pump may be released by loosen-ing the air screw for all e-SV pumps.
If a pump installed in a location wherefreezing may occur remains inactive, you
must drain it through the drain plugs. This opera-tion is not necessary if a suitable antifreeze has beenadded to the water.
Make sure that the drained liquid does notcause damage or injuries.
After stabilizing the system at normal operatingconditions, check piping for correct alignments. Ifnecessary, adjust pipe supports.
HAZARDOUS MACHINERY.MOTOR THERMAL PROTEC-TORS CAN RESTART MOTORUNExPECTEDLY AND WITH-OUT WARNING, CAUSINGSEVERE PERSONAL INJURY.
See the ENGINEERING DATA section in this
manual for the recommended maximum pump startsper hour.
DISCONNECT AND LOCKOUTELECTRICAL POWER BEFOREATTEMPTING ANY MAINTE-NANCE. FAILURE TO DO SOCAN CAUSE SHOCK, BURNS ORDEATH.
Check pump rotation by observing the motor fan orthe coupling THROUGH the coupling guard. DONOT confuse the ow arrows, stamped on the pumpbody, with the rotation arrows on the coupling andmotor adapter. Three phase motors only If rotationis incorrect, have a qualied electrician interchangeany two of the three power cable leads.
3. PRIMING/VENTING
For installations with the liquid level above the pump:
Close the discharge valve.
Remove the vent plug.
For models 1SV, 3SV and 5SV only, it is neces-sary to fully unscrew the pin located in thedrain plug. See gure below.
For sizes 33SV-125SV the vent plug is suppliedwith an internal needle valve, so it is not neces-sary to remove the vent plug. Simply unscrewthe needle valve half way to open the valve toallow air to escape. (For sizes 33SV-92SV, if thepump is supplied with a cartridge seal, removethe vent plug located on the gland plate beneaththe coupling.)
Open the suction valve until liquid ows out of
the vent plug opening.NOTE: Place a loose rag over the open vent port to pre-vent large amounts of liquid from being sprayedon the pump and adjacent equipment.
Care should be exercised if you are pumpinghot water or chemicals to avoid personal injury.
Install and torque the vent plug to the valuesprovided in the ENGINEERING DATA sec-tion of this manual. Close the drain plug pin(1SV, 3SV and 5SV only) and open the dis-charge valve.
For installations with the liquid level below the pump:
Install foot valve at suction end.
For models 1SV, 3SV and 5SV only, it isnecessary to fully unscrew the pin located in thedrain plug. See gure on previous page.
With the provided plastic funnel, completely llthe casing with liquid.
Install and torque the vent plug, close the drainplug pin (1SV, 3SV and 5SV only) and open thesuction valve.

When lubricants are operated at elevated tempera-tures, the lubrication frequency should be increased.
DO NOT intermix grease bases (lithium, sodium,etc.). Completely purge old grease if changinggrease base.
Over greasing can cause excessive bearing tempera-tures, lubricant and bearing failure.
1. Close all necessary suction and discharge valves toisolate the pump from the system.
2. Drain the liquid from the pump by removing thedrain plug and opening the needle valve on thevent plug.
3. Remove the coupling guards, the 4 coupling hexcap screws, the coupling and coupling drive pin.See steps 1-3.
