Goodbye Year 1
Hello Year 2
Hello!
Hi everybody, we are so excited to have you all in our Y2 Freedman class. We are go-
ing to do lots of learning and hopefully have lots of fun! Mr Flevill and Mrs Taylor
have already told us so much about you, but we can’t wait to welcome you into the
classroom so we can get to know you all better.
Some of you might be very excited about starting in Year 2, but some of you may feel
a little bit nervous. This is OK. When we come back together in the new school year,
we will have lots of opportunities to learn about what being in Year Two is like and
answer any questions.
We have put this pack together to give you a little taster, and we hope you enjoy
these activities. Feel free to do the activities in this pack in any order, but we really
would like you to do all of them. We can’t wait to see what you get up to! If you
would like to share any exciting news, or if you have any questions that you want an-
swering before we start back in September, you can email at:
We will put some useful information on our Year 2 blog on the school website, so
please take a look on there too.
Take care,
Mrs Hadabora and Mrs Crookes
Get to know me!
Hello, my name is Mrs Hadabora. I am the classroom teacher for Y2 Freedman. Mrs
Crookes is in our classroom every morning to help support you all with your learning. I
have 2 children called James and Grace, 2 dogs and 3 cats! Mrs Crookes also has 2 chil-
dren, Francesca and Florence and a dog called Mr Hobson—you might have seen him on
the sports day video.
We can’t wait to learn all about you, so we would like you to fill in these snapshots
with pictures, key words or sentences to help us get to know you.
What will we learn in Year 2?
This year, we will be learning about: How to look after our environment, Being an explorer, Afri-
ca, The Great Fire of London, and Transport. We will be continuing to develop our story writing
skills and read lots throughout the year. In maths, we will be building on the number and shape
work you did in Y1. We will also be looking at our times tables, fractions and telling the time.
Write to me! We both love travelling around and visiting lots of places around the UK and the world. This sum-
mer will be a little bit different for us with more exploring of our local area rather than jetting off
on our holidays. Choose one of these tasks to send to us in the envelope provided.
Your task:
Choose one of our class topics and tell
us what you already know.
Choose one of the topics and tell us
what you would like to find out.
Option 1
Think of a place you would like to
visit. Write us an imaginary post-
card from there. What would you
be able to see, hear, taste or smell
there? What experiences could you
have? Draw a picture to go with
your writing. Option 2
We would usually have a week
before the summer to get to know
each other and ask questions.
Write a letter to ask us anything you
like. We’ll have a go at answering
them in the first few weeks back in
September.
Option 3
Draw a picture of somewhere you
have been over the summer. This
could be your garden, a local park
or a day out you have been on.
Write a short recount of what you
did in this place and send it to us.
Attitudes to learning
It is really important in Year 2 to continue to show your good attitudes to learning
in the classroom and around school.
Significant people Each class at Totley Primary School is named after a famous author. Y2F is named after Claire Freedman.
She has written over 100 books—you might even already read some of her books or have copies of your
own. Choose one of the following activities to help you learn more about her.
Your task:
Can you draw a
picture of you
demonstrating each
one of our attitudes
to learning?
Option 1
Create an ‘Claire Freedman’ alphabet.
Try and find a word relating to Claire
Freedman and her books for each
letter of the alphabet. This could be a
good option if you already have some
of her books.
Option 3
Find out all about
Claire Freedman.
Create a fact file all about her
life. You could find where she
lives, what she likes or how she
started writing books.

Option 2
A lot of Claire Freedman books are
about different creatures loving under-
pants! Can you create you own story
about some underpants loving creatures?
Option 4
Can you design your own pair of
underpants? Check on the Year 2 blog
on the school website for a template. Can everyone think of a question you would like to ask
Claire Freedman—it can be about anything: her books, her
life, or even her experiences in lockdown. When we return
to school in September, we will email her (she replied to last years class!).
