What is global warming?
• Global warming is the rise in the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere and oceans
![Page 3: Global warming](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062614/5470604daf795938068b466a/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Introduction
• Is the world getting warmer?
• If so, are the actions of mankind to blame for earth’s temperature increases?
• What can/should be done about these issues?

Why is global warming happening?

Greenhouse Gases
• Carbon dioxide – combustion of solid waste, fossil fuels (oil, natural gas, and
coal), and wood and wood products
• Methane :– production and transport of coal, natural gas, and oil. Methane
emissions also result from the decomposition of organic wastes in municipal solid waste landfills, and the raising of livestock.
• Nitrous oxide – agricultural and industrial activities, as well as during
combustion of solid waste and fossil fuels.
• Hydro Fluoro Carbons (HFCs), Per Fluoro Carbons (PFCs),
Sulphur HexaFluoride (SF6),– industrial processes.

The Sun’s energy passes through the car’s windshield.
This energy (heat) is trapped inside the car and cannot pass back through the windshield, causing the inside of the car to warm up.
Example of the Greenhouse Effect

Of all greenhouse gas emissions come from households:
• Vehicles
• Home Heating
• Electricity
Households are Big Contributors to Climate Change

So how can each of us slow global warming now?

Simple Things To Do
Dress lightly when it’s hot instead of turning up
the air conditioning. Or use a fan.
Dress warmly when it’s cold instead of turning up the heat.
Offer to help your parents keep the air filters on
your AC and furnace clean.
Walk short distances instead of asking for a ride in the car.
Plant a tree. Recycle.

Refrigerators
Replace your old refrigerator with a new Energy Star:
Refrigerator release Chloro Floro Carbons [CFC] .1 Chloro Floro Carbon can break 1,00,000 oxygen atoms

Drive JUST 10 fewer miles per weekAnnual savings: motor vehicles release large amount of carbondioxide in to atmosphere
Reduce your garbage by 10% through greater recycling or reduced packagingAnnual savings:
Wash clothes in cold water onlyAnnual savings:
