The unfunded research“Testing predictability of diseaseoutbreaks with a simple model ofpathogen biography” was published byThe Royal Society in November 2019.

Coverage of 235 geographical areas, with 23,000+ country-specific notes

Historical outbreaks of 360+ Infectious Diseases, dating back to 1348 AD

In-depth phenotype information on 2000+ pathogens

More than 80,000 prevalence and seroprevalence surveys

25,000+ outbreak records and 34,000+ graphs

Updated every day by a team of highly regarded medical scientists

API service for streamlined consumption of data

Embarking on a project, the team initially foundit difficult to locate the right data source.

“There isn’t any cohesive narrative aboutwhere outbreaks happen. We used theGIDEON data because we thought itmight be the most complete thing thereis. I don’t think we could model the dataset we modeled without GIDEON data, forsure”, said Colin J. Carlson.

Thankfully, the data available throughGIDEON made the research and predictivemodeling possible, and the studyproved the model to be effective despiteits simplicity.

GIDEON has a dedicated geographicaldistribution dataset for each Infectious Disease, which defines the endemic countries andprovides country-specific notes and an in-depthanalysis of global distribution.

The team has produced a fantasticpiece of work, challenging the statusquo and trying to establish a new way ofthinking.

This is also a brilliant example of thepotential GIDEON data has for researchand forward-thinking.

"We are limited by data that is both spatially resolved to country-level as well astemporally resolved. That is one of the biggest strengths of GIDEON, as a lot of thetime we only have one or the other."
