Utopia ....Governments have learnt from Orwell.
In the novel 1984, the totalitarian
state of Oceania is perpetually
at war with either Eurasia or
Eastasia - no one cares which.
The war is used as an excuse for
rations, shortages and ever more
surveillance and state control.
In Britain and America, a state of
war with some invisible terrorists
who could strike at any minute
leads us running to the protection
of the state. America and its ultra
right leaders are pushing out
liberal Ideas accumulated over the
centuries, such as liberty, in favour
of the fast track to the death penalty
- no sale no return.
The wars in the Middle East
instigated by America, and
followed unwillingly by
the UK, conform to the
1984 ideal. We do not care
too much about where
they take place - frankly
we just want rid of the
whole business.
The governments are using
panic as a weapon to exert
more control over a public
that is slipping away from
them.....
