    Georges Vanier Secondary School (GVSS) is a dynamic learningenvironment with a wide variety of opportunities to meet theneeds of all students. We host a full range of courses in all areasof the Ontario Curriculum. We are the home of the STEM+program, a grade 9 -12 enriched program in Mathematics andScience that takes a Global, Social Justice perspective in thedelivery of the curriculum. As well, there are PROGRAM 2 ART,and three Specialist High Skills Major Programs (Aerospace,ADVANCE: Arts & Culture, and ICT) that attract students withdifferent academic interests and passions.     SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLSMAJORS - CHOOSE FROMTHREEStudents may choose from one of ourthree SHSM Programs; ADVANCE(Animation, Design, Visual Art &Creation Experience), ICT(Information CommunicationTechnology), or AVIATION & AEROSPACE, and take advantageof the opportunity to focus on a career path thatmatches their skills & interests while allowing them toearn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Students can earnvaluable industry certifications including first aid/CPR and gainimportant practical skills through a co-operativeeducation placement specific to their chosen SHSM.

    PROGRAM 2 ARTVanier offers a special intensive program for students thinkingseriously about pursuing post-secondary studies and careers inVisual Arts. PROGRAM 2 ART covers many aspects of artcreation including drawing, painting, sculpture, 2D & 3D design,computer graphics, animation, linear and atmospheric perspective,art history, typography, and printmaking.

    ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERSWe are proud to serve a diverse student population and welcomeEnglish Language Learners (ELL) from various cultural andlinguistic backgrounds. We also welcome a large numberof international students who enjoy calling Vanier their home awayfrom home.

    STUDIO MUSICSong writing and recording are at the core of what we do. We valuemodern music and song writing techniques that don’t rely onreading & writing of music notation. Students work in labs, rehearsalspaces and in one of the best recording studios in any high school!We do music, dance, poetry, graphics - about any kind of modernart and media you can imagine!

    BSC@VANStudents interested in pursuing post secondary studies and careersin the area of Business have the option of earning a BusinessSpecialist Certificate @ Vanier. Students wishing to take advantageof this opportunity also benefit from participating in a numberof enrichment activities which are designed to further develop andenhance their classroom learning.

  • Student Life - Where You Belong

    Students enjoy a vast array of co-curricular programsincluding clubs, leadership councils and sports teams. Someexamples of these include: SAGE – Students for theAdvancement of Global Entrepreneurship, Van Arts Council,monthly Coffee House (Musical Performances), StudentCouncil, Van Radio and Vanier Photography Club. Vaniersports teams include: basketball, volleyball, soccer, cricket,baseball, badminton, water polo, ultimate Frisbee, crosscountry and more. Drama, music, visual arts, physical andhealth education contribute to our being a triple "A"school i.e. Academics, Arts and Athletics.Special events and assemblies could not happen without theexcellent work of our skilled students who are part of theVanier Stage Crew. Among the highlights of student life atVanier are our prom nights, school plays and ourparticipation in drama festivals. Of particular note is ourannual Vanier International Big Event (VIBE) - a weeklongmulticultural celebration, marked by motivated studentleadership, excitement and lots of learning.

    What Sets Us Apart

    Our Music Studio is one of the world’s finest public schoolmusic creation and production facilities. Vanier proudly offers the only AVIATION & AEROSPACESHSM in the TDSB. Vanier students are able to earn a Focus on InformationTechnology (FIT) Certificate which is granted by theInformation Technology Software Association (ITSA)and recognized by the IT Industry across Canada. To date, all PROGRAM 2 ART graduates who haveapplied to Ontario College of Art and Design University havebeen accepted and gained early admission. Vanier is an Advance Placement (AP) certified testing centreand currently offers the AP Calculus course. Other APcourses will be added as the STEM+ students progressthrough their program.

  • Parent and Community Engagement

    Our school council is active, knowledgeable and involved in schooldecision-making. The regular meetings feature a report from theprincipal, student leaders, a staff representative as well asdiscussions of school issues. The school council works with theprincipal on organizing parenting seminars and workshops for thecommunity. Vanier encourages ongoing and regular contact withparents regarding attendance, grades, curriculum and importantschool-related topics.
