Towards a multi-hazard, multi-risk approach
Reducing loss of life and property fromnatural and human-induced disasters.
GEO Activities focus on:
• Providing basic Geographic Products
• Ensure provision of timely and accurate information
• Ensure development of predictive models and decision support systems
• Filling technical and organizational gaps, as well as continuity issues

Key issues addressed Implementation of a Multi-hazard/ Multi-
risk approach Warning, Response and Recovery are not
enough, need to address all phases of the Risk Management
Risk Assessment and Management provisions are an integral part of Sustainable Development planning and implementation

Virtual Constellations (1)
The concept has been proposed by CEOS and it is being developed as the GEOSS mechanism to ensure coordination among space observing systems for the benefit of the Users within all the Societal Benefit Areas;
The basic idea for the establishment of the Virtual Constellations is to extract from the reference user communities a clear and common statement of requirements, as the basis for satellite developers and operators to individually and collectively define a series of ‘virtual satellite constellations’ to satisfy these requirements;

Virtual Constellations (2)
Each definition would serve as a guide to all satellite developers and operators to define and implement development and operation features of the space and ground segments for their mission, which would best satisfy the needs of the reference users;
The concept will be exploited to ensure coordination among mission already operational, as well as to properly design future missions.

GEO Web Portal - Objectives1. Implement a one stop shop for User access
• To all Earth observation data
• To best practices, on going programs and projects, available services and Communities of Practice fora in each of the nine GEO Societal Benefit Areas.
2. Ensure coordination of registered GEOSS Resources (Observation Systems, Databases and Data Access/Dissemination Services)

GEO Web Portal – Prototype DevelopmentTwo major activities are on going to develop a prototype that will be available by the GEO Ministerial Summit 2007.
• Development of the prototype Web Portal and its initial links
• Implementation of an initial Architecture, through the “Architecture Implementation Pilot”, that
is able to support and demonstrate the main functionalities, here included the support of different Users scenarios
uses existing systems and incorporates them as GEOSS components
develops recommendations for GEOSS interoperability arrangements
