Deck: Or, How I Instigated Then Overcame An Existential Crisis
Through Home Improvement takes us on a hilarious journey following a recently let go money manager as he embraces a fresh a start in a small interior community.
With a warning of power tools, physics and partial nudity, Deck is a captivating and absurd piece of theatre, that will have the audience howling over the antics of the characters.
“Deck is funny, quirky and full of heart. Myers brings his own unique and original
personal style of storytelling to the city boy in the country fable.”
Ian Case, Intrepid Theatre
This outstanding Festival Series show is an amusing journey about personal growth set in a small BC town as the fine line between perfectionism and obsession is examined. Presented by the Chilliwack Arts and Cultural Centre Society on November 10 at 7:30pm in the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre, Deck is a unique and darkly hilarious piece of theatre that you won’t want to miss.
Written and performed by Lucas Myers, the main character in Deck is Cliv, a meticulous single parent of two, who is forced to reassess his future after losing his job in the world of finance. His attempts at home improvement results in a hilarious
lineup of circumstances ending with him begging the audience to help him complete the task.
After purchasing a rather run down house, Cliv decides to take on the reconstruction of the shabby deck and quickly becomes aware of his hopeless inability to complete the job. Coming to the rescue is the charismatic carpenter Andreas, who quickly sees that Cliv needs help and offer to lend a hand with the repairs. Grateful at first, Cliv soon becomes suspicious of Andreas motives and slowly loses his grip on reality, and the job, in the process. Witnessing the deck being built as the story unfolds, Cliv becomes obsessed with the need to fix the deteriorating deck and therefore his life. This show is unpredicable and packed full of surprises!
“Lucas Myers is the Swiss Army Knife of comedic theatre. His performances are consistently imaginative, endearing and
hilarious. An audience favorite and a pure joy to present.”
Neil Harrower, Capitol Theatre, Nelson
Through voice changes and body mannerisms, Myers brilliantly transforms into a 16-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy, an uptight father and a free spirit who’s maybe a little too free with his drugs. Deck is a wildly entertaining take on the atmosphere of a small town and is sure to be an exceptional show.
Don’t miss this fantastic, engaging, interactive piece of Festival theatre when it comes to town on November 10 at 7:30pm. Deck is generously sponsored by Canex Building Supply, The Chilliwack Progress, Department of Canadian Heritage and the British Columbia Arts Council.

. . . that Art Deco is an eclectic artistic and design style that began in Paris in the 1920s and flourished interna-tionally throughout the 1930s and into the World War II era. The style influenced all areas of design, including architecture and interior design, industrial design, fashion and jewelry, as well as the visual arts such as painting, graphic arts and film. At its best, art deco represented elegance, glamour, functional-
ity, and modernity. Art deco’s linear symmetry was a distinct departure from the flowing asymmetrical organic curves of its predecessor style art nouveau.
