From Our Senior Minister Rev. Deborah Morgan-Stokes
Our EDCC Scholars
East Dallas Christian Church has been fortunate to have loving
donors who bequeathed parts of their estates to us, designated for the sole purpose of educating young adults.
The Welsh scholarship was established in memory and in honor of our distinguished former Senior Minister, Rev. Dr. W.A. Welsh, by his children and his widow, Billie Ruth Welsh.
The intent of the scholarship is to provide a little help to those high school graduates who are either members of our congregation or
connected to any of the non-profits serving with us on our property. Priority is to be given to first generation college students.
Over the years we have used the majority of the scholarship fund for
deserving students; however, we still have a little left to bestow on this year’s Welsh Scholar—Alexis Wilson, attending Texas Tech this semester.
The Skinner Scholarship was established in the estate of Etta Skinner, who at her death set up a perpetual trust that would
supply EDCC with the means to help those entering the ministry and Christian service.
This year’s Skinner Scholars are Derek Wilkerson (Brite Divinity
School) and Lacie Jefferson (Completing her CPE certification and Regional Commission on Ministry classes). We are also using the
Skinner Scholarship to help support our XPLOR resident, Leah Michael.
We are grateful to those who, through their financial stewardship, have made a difference in the
lives of these particular young adults this year, and we look forward to seeing whose lives we can better in the years to come.
This is one way our giving changes the world, and any time you would like to designate a memorial or honorary gift, both scholarship funds are good designations.
Blessings on our continuing education as Disciples of Christ!
