Through the hard work of the Academic Honor Society and the National Honor Society the students were able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together. Every year this event is a reminder to all our students about being thankful for what we have. Students brought dishes to pass and parents volunteered. Students, faculty and staff dressed in their best outfits. The NHS and AHS stu-dents served the meal and did a wonderful job. Thank you to the NHS and the AHS for a won-derful event!
A question for Montessori students: What are you thankful for?

It was cold and damp, but participating Archbishop Walsh Academy students merely had to endure it for the night. Sophomore Tioga Simpson organized the inaugural event and hopes to keep it going every year. The students spent the night outside and slept in cardboard boxes. Tioga feels that this event gave the students a better appreciation for the plight of the homeless.
To participate in the event the students had to bring a bag of household items that would be later donated to the Olean Genesis House. Students had water available, but no food, limited bathroom breaks, and no electronics. The event lasted from 6:00pm to 6:00am.
Tioga also created a video to capture the perceptions of students before and after the event.
“At the beginning I asked three ques-tions.” said Tioga “What is a privilege? What is a right? and What are your ex-pectations for the night?” At the end of the night she asked the first two ques-tions again and then asked what they thought the homeless were most de-prived of and what did they learn from the experience.
Each student felt that they learned something and are more thankful for the things that they have.

News from the Spiritual Director Mrs. Mary Lou Plesac
Another busy fall has come and gone for STCS/Walsh. Our school observed October’s Respect Life month by participating again in the Baby Bottle Drive to benefit the Southern Tier Pregnancy Care Center. Our students collected $274 to help expectant mothers and their babies who need an extra helping hand. The second and sixth grade classes raised the most money for the cause. At the end of October, the fifth and sixth grade classes celebrated Halloween with the sisters at the St. Elizabeth’s Motherhouse. Students and sisters were decked out in a variety of costumes. Everyone enjoyed dancing, games, and plenty of treats. On December 8th, we held an all school Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Father David Tourville was the presider. He was assisted by Seminarian Richard Pantano who has been a frequent visitor to our school this fall.

Drama Club Performs
This year the STCS / Walsh Drama Club preformed two one-act plays.
One November 12, 2015, the members presented “The Christmas Snowman,” directed by Ms. Jennifer Simpson.
They then performed “The Trial of Amanda Marie Locks or (How Goldi-locks Contempts the Court,” directed by Sophomore Tioga Simpson, on Decem-ber 17, 2015.
Both performances were a huge hit and we can’t wait to see more!
2015 Christmas Concert
“The Christmas Snowman”
“The Trial of Amanda Marie Locks”
The theme was “Christmas with the Stars” and eve-
ryone was dressed in their best Christmas clothes.
Montessori through 12th grade sung to a packed
gym as everyone got into the Christmas spirit.
Even some of the faculty and staff performed.
Some played instruments while others acted
“’Twas the Night Before Christmas.” The stu-
dents wrapped up the event with a sing-a-long.
The Parent Teacher Association hosted a reception
after the concert. We would like to wish our
Walsh Family a very Merry Christmas and a Hap-
py New Year.
Our very own “Pig-casso”
On November 24th ,Mrs. Jessica Policastro brought
her pet pig Finnegan to school. Finnegan visited
Ms. Kichman’s 2nd grade and Ms. Simpson’s Mon-
tessori class. After Finnegan met all the students,
he got to work painting a picture with his snout.
After the painting was done, he enjoyed Cheerio
treats while the students asked questions about
pet pigs. Finnegan enjoyed his visit and hopes
that he can come back soon. Thank you 2nd grade
and Montessori for letting Finnegan see your class-
rooms!
