In Harrison County, the communities of Logan, Dunlap andWoodbine host events during the Fourth of July holiday week.Following is a list of events in each of those communities byday beginning with the Fourth of July. Please use this guide asyour one-stop shop for all things patriotic this 4th of July hol-iday – and thank one of the advertisers who brought this prod-uct to you! Also, consider posting the flag in a window or doorto express your love for our country and the freedoms we allcherish.

SATURDAY, JUNE 30

CITY OF LOGAN

Blues Carnival (Carnival actually opens June 3; It closes onJuly 4. The Carnival will be staged in the Logan City Park.Wristbands cost $25. Hours of operation are:Saturday, June 30 – 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.Sunday, July 1 – 1 p.m. – 10 p.m.Monday, July 2 – 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.Tuesday, July 3 – 2 p.m. – 10 p.m.Wednesday, July 4 – Parade time to 10 p.m.

Logan Fire and Rescue Street Dance – Music will be providedby the bands Sanford Place and Fork in the Road. Doors openat 7 p.m. The Mechanical Bull run by the Dabine BoyzEntertainment will be at the event. The dance will be alongThird Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets (the street in frontof the Logan Fire Hall). Visitors must be age 21 or older andhave a valid ID to enter.

Gigantic Fireworks Display – The fireworks will be at dusk atthe Logan-Magnolia Community School District’s ball fields.No individual fireworks or alcohol will be allowed into thearea. Area law enforcement will be on hand patrolling theevent.

HARRISON COUNTY’S BIGGEST PARADE – THEME IS“HOMETOWN SPIRIT” – Judging will begin at 9:30 a.m. TheParade starts at 10:30 a.m. The Grand Marshall is FlorenceMarley, the Logan Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of theYear. The parade will begin at 7th and Maple streets and willhead East down Highway 30. Horses will need to line-up onthe block north of the Community Center on 3rd Street. NoWater Balloons will be allowed.

CITY OF DUNLAP

JULY 4TH CELEBRATION – Theme is “Living the Dream” –Events include a Fun Run/Walk, two parades, activities, bar-beque contest and Fireworks as dusk. The day’s festivities

begin at 7:45 a.m. with the Flag Raising Ceremony in CityPark. Parade line-up begins at 8 a.m. with the parade itself at11 a.m. Games and other activities in City Park will be fromnoon to 4 p.m. Events will range from carnival and traditionalgames to inflatables for children. Bingo will be available at St.John Lutheran Church across the street from the park. Otherevents include a hot dog eating contest and an Antique Carand Tractor Show. Judging for the Barbeque Contest will be at2:30 p.m. Food stands also will be set-up.

ANNUAL 15th Annual 4th of July 5K Fun Run/Walk -- Thecourse is three miles and will start and finish at the DunlapCity Park. The Kids’ Race is for children aged two to 10. Allparticipants and spectators are invited to a breakfast followingthe event. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male andfemale finishers and to all children in the run. Check-in will befrom 7 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. The Boy Scout Flag Raising will be at7:45 a.m. The Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. From 8:15 a.m. – 8:45a.m. will be the check-in for kids with the Kids’ Race at 9 a.m.Fees for the event are $10 for adults wanting a t-shirt, $3 with-out the t-shirt (race day prices will be $13 and $5, respective-ly). Kids’ Race costs are $6 with t-shirt and $1 without the t-shirt (race day prices will be $8 and $3, respectively).Registrations should be made by today to: 4th of July Fun Runand Walk, 3809 155th St., Dunlap, IA 51529. HORN BLOWERS/DRUM BEATERS – If you would like toparticipate in the annual Horn Blowers/Drum Beaters per-formance at the event, please try to make one of the practicesthat are hosted in the Boyer Valley High School Band Room.Practices are at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 28; 10:30 a.m.,Saturday, June 30; 6:30 p.m., Monday, July 2 and also onTuesday, July 3. The performance follows the parade and lastsabout a half hour.

CITY OF WOODBINE – ANNUAL WOODBINE SADDLECLUB RODEO AND EVENTS

THURSDAY, JULY 5

Woodbine Saddle Club’s Kids’ Night -- Will be from 6:30 p.m.– 9.m., Thursday, July 5, at the Rodeo Grounds near City Park.There is free admission for kids this night and games andactivities for the entire family. Registration begins at 6 p.m. forthe Mutt’n Bust’n Preliminaries. The event is for kids whoweigh 60 pounds or less. Participants should wear longsleeves and jeans/pants. If possible, please provide your childwith a helmet. This year’s Rodeo theme is: “Wild, Wild West.”

Woodmen of the World Lodge 647 Children’s Fingerprinting –Starting at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, July 5, during Kids’ Night ofthe Woodbine Saddle Club’s Annual Rodeo. Look for thegroup in the Food Stand building. This service is provided freeof charge to any youth younger than 15. A parent’s consent isneeded for this service.

FRIDAY, JULY 6

First United Methodist Church to host Ice Cream Social --Members of the UMC, Lincolnway and Sixth streets, will host

its annual Ice Cream Social from 4:30 p.m. – 7 p.m., Friday, July6, at the church. The community and visitors are invited to jointhe congregation for fun and fellowship before the WoodbineSaddle Club’s Rodeo. Church members will be serving home-made vanilla and chocolate ice cream with toppings, pies,desserts, Sloppy Joe’s, hot dogs, chips, root beer floats andbeverages. A free-will offering will be accepted.

52nd Annual Woodbine Saddle Club Rodeo to be July 6 – 7 atRodeo Grounds – The Woodbine Saddle Club will host its52nd Annual Rodeo on Friday and Saturday, July 6 – 7, at theRodeo Grounds near City Park. Rodeo action will begin at 7:30p.m. both nights and will feature “Tuff Enough To Wear PinkCancer Awareness” program. The Queen’s Entry will be at7:15 p.m. and the Grand Entry will be at 7:30 p.m. both nights.The 2012 Woodbine Rodeo Queen is Cheyann Shelton. Thisyear’s theme is: “Wild, Wild, West.” Also on Friday andSaturday will be the Finals of the Mutt’n Bust’n event. Bothnights will close out with a free Rodeo Dance following theactual rodeo events. The dance will be in the building on thegrounds of the Woodbine Saddle Club. Available all threenights of the Rodeo Event will be the DaBine Boyz MechanicalBull ride. There will be a Concession Stand on sight. There alsowill be nightly performances of the “Fire and Ice EquestrianDrill Team.” The IRA, URA and MRA sanction the event. Thecontractor is Grand River Rodeo Co., Grand River.Contestants are asked to visit www.interstatesrodeoassocia-tion.com for more information.
