Everest—Conquering Challenges
with God’s Mighty Power will be the theme for Vacation Bible School this year. During The week of July 6th through 10th, VBS participants will have the chance to experience God’s Word in surprising and unforgettable ways! Each day, leaders will reinforce one simple Bible truth—which makes it easy for kids to remember, understand, and apply to real
life. Many things are planned to make VBS a memorable week, including sandbox stories, games, movies, songs, crafts and
recreational activities.
Directors for Vacation Bible School this year are: Debra Reiley, Fonda Mathis, Kim Kauitzsch, and LeAnne Heckmann. They are making preparations for a week of VBS that promises to teach the
Word of God to young people in fun and exciting ways.
If you would like for your children to participate in Everest VBS, please keep in mind that registration will open in June. Mark your calendars now for the week of July 6th through 10th so your children can be a part of this exciting opportunity. Registration is vital to the success of VBS. The number of participants must be known so activities and classes can be sufficiently planned. Be sure to keep an eye out for the registration table in the Narthex sometime in June.
Everyone must be enrolled by Sunday, June 28th!
Hours for Everest VBS will be 8:30 AM-12:30 PM. All ages from three-year-olds (must be potty trained) to those who have completed 6th grade are welcome. Vacation Bible School is free of charge, but
registration is a MUST!!
Please call the Church Office if you are able to lend a helping hand during the week of VBS. Volunteers are appreciated, and VBS has been a success year after year because of Faith’s dependable members who generously donate their time and talents. Hope to see
you there!

Stewardship Committee Thanks Cluster Leaders
On May 16th, the Stewardship Committee hosted a Bunco Party at the home
of George and Gina Mannel to thank those who had served as Cluster Leaders
during the past year and welcome those who volunteered to be Cluster
Leaders for the coming year. There were 21 people in attendance. We had a
great time and plenty of delicious snacks. Door prizes were also given to the
"winners," as well as to those who were not so "lucky."
The following is a list of the Clusters and the Leaders who will serve June 1,
2015 - May 31, 2016. Thank you to all of them!

PRESCHOOL NEWS Preschool is out for summer! Goodness, that was fast! It seems as if
we just opened the doors for the school year to begin. Time flies when you are
having fun, and boy, do we do that at Faith Lutheran Preschool!
The two-year-olds made special journals and cards for their moms and practiced for the
HUGE Preschool Program. They were AWESOME and were the cutest jumping monkeys you've ever seen! For many it was their first time on a stage. They also had fun
with "Under the Sea" and "Summer Fun" units with many fun language experiences. All
the children with summer birthdays celebrated their special day.
The Three Day Class made fingerprint pots for their special Muffins with Mom Day---
which they really enjoyed! They had fun celebrating Pajama Day, Stuffed Animal Day,
and Hat Day.
The Five Day Classes studied the letters M, R, and K. They made "What We Love About
Mom" booklets and a special handprint tile keepsake that they gave to their moms for
Mother's Day. They enjoyed Muffins with Moms and were so excited to have their mommies at Preschool. The moms and children were treated to a very special chapel
story, "Moses in the Bulrushes," acted out by our very own Jon Bostick, Teressa Cope,
and Valerie Doerfler. Once again the children have tried new foods such as mango, mozzarella, marmalade on melba toast, ravioli, raspberries, kiwi, and kosher dills. The
children were treated to a Petting Zoo the last week of school, complete with pony rides.
The highlight of the year was, of course, our Spring Program, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children brought the story to life beautifully with each taking a turn to
shine on stage. We were proud of them for being so courageous.
The year ended with our annual outdoor play day complete with bikes, bubbles, popsicles, and face painting. After all the fun, the tears started (for the teachers and
moms, that is). How sad it is to say goodbye to those who will be going off to the big
world of kindergarten, but alas, on the horizon what do we see? Yes, a whole new crop of
children coming along in the fall! Thanks be to God!
Thanks also to each and every member of this wonderful congregation for all the love and
support you show the Preschool. We appreciate it so much. God bless you all!
Summer Extended Care begins June 1st.
A few spots remain open in the Mother’s Morning Out
Class for 2-year-olds.
The Five Day Preschool Class has available openings.
Classes are filling up fast!

FAITH on Tour 50th Anniversary Celebration Faith’s 50th year officially began on February 27, 2015. The goal of Faith on
Tour is to celebrate by giving back to the community and to complete 50
service projects by our 50th Anniversary date, February 27, 2016.
Quite a bit is happening at Faith as 50 projects for 50 years take shape!
Fantastic! The North Fishermen of Faith collected magazines for Guadalupe
Regional Medical Center for use in waiting areas and by patients. They are
the first cluster to complete a project. Great Job!
Which cluster will be next?
The Worship Committee worked the soil and planted shrubs and flowering
plants around the cross which was put in at San Geronimo Cemetery.
Brian and Diane Terp, Lenoir Hilbert, Teressa Cope, and Landon Robles
participated in the South Texas Pregnancy Care Center’s Walk for Life. Funds
were raised to support STPCC’s mission.
The Social Concerns Committee has sponsored blood drives to give support
to those with medical needs. This group is also responsible for the monthly
food drives for the Christian Cupboard.
The Wednesday Work Group assisted the United States Postal Service with
the national Stamp Out Hunger food drive. The group sorted donated food
and transported it from the post office to the Christian Cupboard.
The Handbell Choir recently took their heavenly music on tour. The
musicians played for residents of Argent Court and Seguin Assisted Living.
Several other projects are in the planning stages and they will be happening
soon. Which ones can YOU be a part of? Come up with an idea and ask
others to join you. We can all be a part of any of the wonderful projects to
serve our community.

Evangelism Committee Invites Everyone to Prayer Walks
Go therefore and make disciples... Matthew 28:19
What is your mission in service for Christ? What is your passion for Christ?
The Bible teaches us that we each have a directive to first, be a disciple, and
second, to make disciples. According to the Bible Jesus has given us a
commission. The last words Jesus conveyed to his disciples before ascending
to heaven were “Go therefore and make disciples!”
This statement was not merely Jesus’ suggestion. It was a command. Jesus
gave them an order: not to sit in the pew but to go! We come to church to
worship God and be filled with the Holy Spirit so that we can “go out” and
share Christ with others. In the Book of Acts, it is written that the church
began with just a few committed men and women, but their mission impacted
not only Jerusalem, but the world. This is the same vision that God desires to
see in his church today.
We are empowered to go by being present in prayer and the word. Please
consider joining the Evangelism Committee on June 27th for a Prayer Walk. A
Prayer Walk provides a subtle way to touch hearts for Christ and is not
intended to be obtrusive in any way. The group will meet at the church at 9:45
AM and carpool to the new subdivision on South Highway 123 Bypass.
As we move forward this year reflecting on the first 50 blessed years of Faith
Lutheran Church in Seguin, may we focus on our mission in service for Christ
in 2015. If you would like more information, call Margit 830-305-0035, Anita
830-557-6697, or Linda 830-660-6557.

Another Sunday School year has wrapped up well. Thank you to everyone who has helped make it a successful year. The past few weeks the children have learned about Mothers of the Bible, Daniel in The Lions Den, and the story of Esther. It was fun to play a matching game and listen to the kids reflect on their own mothers. We had so much fun playing games while teaching the story of Daniel. There were teachers roaring, kids roaring, it was a den full of loud, active lions! If you are in need of filling your heart with joy and want to start your week with a smile, please come join us. Sunday School Teachers leave a special imprint on a child's heart, but it has been said that the children have an even greater
impact on the teacher’s lives.
The regular Sunday School year has completed, but WE WILL CONTINUE SUNDAY SCHOOL during the Summer. The Senior High Youth are looking forward to doing a variety of lessons. We have some spectacular youth within our church. There is no greater role model for a child to have than one from within their own church. Please join us each Sunday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. We will meet in the choir room and
begin with singing and then move on to a Bible lesson and activity.
With Summer upon us, we are also looking forward to fall. This is a time we will bring new shepherds, teachers, and music leaders on board. If you are willing to help with Sunday School please get in touch with Amy
Casey ASAP!

Another histor ica l event from the f irst 50 years of Faith
Lutheran occurred when a chicken
was seen pacing around the back
patio. To this day we do not know where she came from. She
survived on cr ickets, worms, bugs,
and we did throw out some seed. she had to have a name. . .so she
became Katy Cluck, after
Kather ine Luther . After severa l weeks she was found s it t ing on a
nest of eggs. She sat on that nest with gr eat patience for about s ix
weeks. F inally, Fonda Mathis felt p ity on her and brought her thr ee
eggs from her own chicken’s flock. Katy Cluck did raise one baby chick named Marty, after Martin Luther . But Marty soon disappeared
as a hawk probably made a quick mea l of him.
Katy Cluck star ted s it t ing on her own eggs once again. Jess e
Atzger brought her 12 fer t i le eggs from his f lock of chickens. One day
here she was with her new family strutt ing around the patio area with
a flock of eight new baby chicks following behind her .
Pastor Lange had been raised as city boy and was becoming disenchanted with the chickens and kept saying, “You have GOT to
get r id of those chickens! When I am preaching and look out over the
congregation, I see her through the front windows marching back and for th, back and for th, with her flock of babies behind her . Do you
want me to lose my train of thought?”
One day J im Cooksey was dr iving down Cedar Street and saw a
station wagon parked in the church parking lot . A man was running
around chas ing the chickens and had Katy Cluck alr eady in the car with severa l of her babies f lying frant ically around. Jim yelled, “What
are you doing?” The man r eplied, “I’m catching the chickens.” Jim
said, “No, these are our church chickens, leave them a lone!” The man said, “No church has chickens!” and J im r eplied, “Well, WE DO a t
Faith Lutheran!” So, Katy Cluck was spared and took her l it t le f lock
back to the safety of the patio area where they loved the gazebo and
called it their home.
But t ime was near for her depar ture. She star ted leading her flock
across Cedar Street to feast on the cr ickets which l it t er ed the ground around the football stadium lights. She was fear less, as several
observed her stopping traff ic in both dir ect ions as she led her f lock
across the str eet . It was t ime for them to go, so Jesse and Delor is
Atzger were kind enough to r escue them (which was not an easy task) and take them to a fr iend’s farm where they belonged and were ver y
happy!
There have been some rumors that Pastor Lange was in charge at
Faith…maybe at t imes…but not when it came to cats and chickens! Fonda, Jesse, Delor is, Crash, and Hanna were also on that committee.
