PRESIDENT’S CORNER
By Tom Martin
We are nearing the end of 2013….and an important time at Hicks Airfield. Our annual General Membership Meeting will be held December 7 at Hangar 111 at 1pm followed by dinner for property owners and guest at the Colonial House restaurant from 6 to 8pm. There will be 3 board positions open for a 2 year term that need to be elected at our annual meeting. Short biographies will be included in this Flappings issue of candidates that have announced their desire to help guide our airport. Please take the opportunity to discuss your concerns and ideas with these candidates that you feel will make a positive impact on our airport. And vote!!!! I encourage you to have a conversation with any board member; these are volunteers that are contributing time and energy to make a better place for all. I am fortunate to be on the airfield nearly every day and have met many great people who need information about gate clickers, dues, hangar improvements and safety concerns. Our socials have been a success with 60 to 70 owners enjoying the great food and conversation with our friends. These will continue in 2014 and hopefully our participation will continue to grow. I feel the current board has represented and managed Hicks Airfield this year very successfully. I need to thank all the board members and volunteers for their efforts and time devoted this year. Please remember this is your airport and our monthly Board of Directors Meeting will be held November 14 at the Beacon Café. Let your voice be heard and join us for the meeting. I would like to personally thank all that have supported me as HAPA President for this year. Best Regards,
Tom Martin

ELECTION CANDIDATES BIO’S FOR 2014-2015 BOARD OF DI RECTORS
Tom Martin I have been involved with Hicks Airfield since 2005 as a property owner and now completing my first term on the HAPA board and current President. I appreciate the opportunity to serve on the board and make a contribution to Hicks Airfield representing the property owners. My goal has been to be visible and available on the airport with any concerns that need to be addressed in a “hands on” approach. I am a native of Fort Worth and received my private pilot license in 1975 at Meacham Field. I retired from BNSF Railway with 37 years of service in the transportation industry providing direction and development to supervisors and employees. My responsibilities included operations of terminals and regions in Texas, Colo-rado, Nebraska and Washington State. Experienced in supervision of people, equipment, budget and property management. Represented BNSF at public meetings with City of Seattle and surrounding areas including Port of Seattle and Tacoma as well as Washington Department of Transportation. I have many hours of Safety training and feel it should always be the most important consideration with any issues or plans. Tom Martin Roy Geer Roy (Jarhead) Geer was born and grew up in Arlington Texas. Roy retired from Southwestern Bell and now lives with his wife Vickie at (T67) Hicks airfield north of Ft. Worth, Texas. Roy started flying in 1974 and has instrument rated commercial pilot and flight instructor. Roy has over 3600 Hrs., most of which is in a tail wheel airplane. Roy started formation flying in an RV-6, and flew it for over 1600 hrs. Then he traded it for an RV-8. He has over 2500 hrs in RV’s alone. Roy has flown with Falcon Flight over 10 years, and has flown at Oshkosh all of those years. Roy is a flight lead in FFI and is always ready to go fly. I have served as a member of the HAPA Board of Directors for the past two years, and would be honored to serve for another two years. My primary focus has been to improve the taxiways. Thank you for your support. Roy Geer Bob Samson I’ve lived on the airport for more than 10 years. I run AOG Reaction, an FAA Approved aviation repair sta-tion at 526 Aviator Drive. I have a degree in engineering and an MBA. I have been a pilot since 1965. I fly a Saratoga and a little green Ultralight on floats you may have seen overhead. I served on the HAPA BOD a few years ago. I made some fantastic friends here at Hicks during that time. But, I still think that serving on the BOD is one of the hardest, most underappreciated tasks a HAPA member can undertake. Even so, I would like your consideration to do it again to finish some things I left undone. In exchange for your vote, I promise to promote Hicks community spirit with activities that we can all enjoy, and some we’ll just feel good about, such as community cleanup days. I’d like to have the Airport Master Plan finished that will protect our air-port interests in future FAA airspace planning and any local construction considerations. I’d like to revisit what it would take to obtain an instrument approach into T67. And I’d like to see a disaster plan that I hope we’ll never need. Even the small things like establishing a working relationship between our BOD with the sheriff’s department, and fire department have lingered. We need to prepare an information packet to give to any interested news media and establish a single community spokesperson versed on how to talk to them. These simple steps will go a long way to protect our community from the risk of any negative news stories, or animosity by our surrounding neighbors, however undeserved. Thank you for your consideration, Bob

ELECTION CANDIDATES BIO’S FOR 2014-2015 BOARD OF DI RECTORS
Mike Bruno I am volunteering to serve on the HAPA Board of Directors. Since 2006, I have been a Hicks property owner and resident at 920 Aviator. For three years I was editor of our Flappings newsletter. I own a 1987 YAK 52, currently fly for American Airlines, and am a retired Air Force pilot. My reason for running for the Board is simple; I want to see Hicks remain a first class private air-
port. While I think the current Board is doing an excellent job maintaining and operating the airport, I would like to see more emphasis placed on enforcing the CCRs which all of us signed. Lack of enforcement not only jeopardizes our investments as airport properties, but results in the serious safety issues we see every day. Let's face it, an increasing number of residents, guests, and businesses see airplanes only as a nui-sance. Our properties are privately owned, the taxiways, runways, septic fields, and common areas are owned by all of us, and the HAPA Board of Directors has an obligation to ensure all are maintained in ac-cordance with the rules. If elected, I will take position seriously, and give the time and effort it deserves. Thank you for your vote. Mike Bruno
