Encourager THE LYMAN FIRST
WEEK OF JULY 1, 2009
Church Family-
I trust that this edition of The Encourager finds you in a cool place with a
sweet tea in hand! The summer has certainly arrived. Along with the heat
comes many opportunities through the ministries of our church.
Vacation Bible School and the Family Mission trip have come and gone on
the calendar, but the blessings of these special events will last for eternity. As I write,
sixteen students and three adults are packing the van for Crossroads Summer Camp at
Gardner Webb University. Pray for Ricky and the group that God will show off in a mighty
way in and through their lives.
Last night we had an incredible service. We began with fun, food, and fellowship. We then
prayed together before Brian Dailey took requests and led us in singing for about 20
minutes. That was a joy! After the music I addressed the issue of church safety and
security. The foundation for the message and the actions to follow in days ahead is the
principle of Nehemiah 4. We must “build and protect” God’s church. This applies to people
and facilities.
I announced the names of a steering team to investigate and lead the charge in the matter
of church safety and security. These individuals who have agreed to serve in this capacity
are listed below. Please pray for me and this group. Ask the Lord to grant us wisdom as we
seek His will in building and protecting First Lyman.
Pray for: Jimmy McMillan Tina McMillan
Monty Godfrey Clayton Bradley
Katie Johnson Paulette Bentley
Marc Owens Charlie Clyburn
It’s truly a shame that a church must take such measures. But our church will be proactive
in the matter of safety and security before tragedy arrives on our doorstep. We must build
and protect this place of worship, all to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ!
Joyfully blessed to serve by your side,
Pastor Scott

Greetings from Gardner-Webb University! By the time you are reading
this, we are at Crossroads Summer Camp having a blast! And boy do we
need your prayers! Last Sunday, you should have received a list of campers
and chaperones, along with some suggested prayer items to pray for. I hope
you will choose not only to pray over that list this week, but also in the coming weeks. God is doing a great work in our lives this week and Satan wants to destroy
it. Would you pray for God to be faithful to complete the good work He has begun in us?
Would you pray that as our week here at camp wraps up, that we would have a special
encounter with God and would truly worship Him and leave this place forever changed? We
really want to see God show off in our lives this week, so once again here are the names of
those who are at camp. Will you take a few minutes right now and pray for us?

From The Minister Of Music & Senior Adults
Wow- what an awesome summer it’s been already! There’s nothing like starting at a brand new church during VBS week, but there couldn’t have been a better time to get to meet so many of you, learn a whole bunch of names, and eat a lot of good food! You have made us feel like full-fledged “Lymanites” already. (I wonder if that’s how
you say that?) Man, the choir is doing a fantastic job leading us in worship each week! I want to invite any of you who have ever had any interest in choir to come join us one Wednesday night. Maybe you are a former choir member who has been worshiping from the pews for a while, or maybe you’ve never been in choir in your life- whatever the case may be, we would love to have you. We meet each Wednesday in the choir room around 7:05, immediately following prayer service. We work hard, and we have a lot of fun and great fellowship. But most importantly, we worship the Lord together! So
come check us out this week! I’m really looking forward to being with all of the Senior Adults at Joy Fellowship on July 14. I’ve been asked to share some music with you from the piano, and we’ll probably sing some together, too. Of course, I know we’re going to enjoy the food and the fellowship around the tables. Oh, and did I mention the food?? One thing that I’ve quickly discovered is that this church loves to eat- and eat well!
I’m looking forward to seeing you all in worship on Sunday. Come expecting the Lord to do great things!
Brian
