Impounding of the Creeks by an embankment dam will establish Lake Naconiche

The Texas Caddo

• East Texas Indian Tribes

• Hasinai (Tejas) Group occupied the area of present day Nacogdoches

• In fact the city of Nacogdoches was built over the largest of the old Hasinai villages

• Sedimentary Farmers

• “Texas” is derived from a Caddoan word meaning: Those who are friends

About The Caddo

• Caddo are thought to have been the most advanced of the Indians in Texas.

• Their villages were built along river and creek bottoms which supplied irrigation systems for their crops.
