Classroom Management and CommunicationPlan
Management Style and Philosophical Beliefs (Artifact 1)
Strong classroom management is important for many aspects, on behalf of
the teacher and thestudents. One of the biggest reasons is shown by a study by
Kati Haycock (199! that students of e"ecti#e teachers can gain up to $%&
percentile points in their achie#ement o#er a year's time. )he a#erage for yearly
maturation is about * percentile points. So, really the teacher+s e"ect is
approimately -* percentile points. )his is #ery signicant and makes me reali/e
my position as a teacher. 0 second reason for e"ecti#e classroom management is
so that am not occupied with a
misbeha#ing student and lea#ing the rest of my
students to deal with that student+s beha#ior. t is not fair to gi#e most of my
attention to one student, they all deser#e it. Ha#ing e"ecti#e classroom
management also allows for a better relationship between teacher and students.
Students ha#e more respect for a teacher who has control o#er their classroom,
and with respect, comes higher learning.
n order to ha#e e"ecti#e classroom management, belie#e in the theories
of the 2reikurs and0lbert 3odel (4arson 5 Keiper, p. 6-!. belie#e, especially for
students at the middle school le#el, that these students are capable of being
responsible for their own beha#ior to promote learning. 7ot onlydo want to
teach my students educational material, but lifelong lessons about responsibility,
accountability and self8discipline. strongly belie#e in natural conseuences, such
as peer response for
bad beha#ior or losing a grade in the grade book forforgetting homework. Students this age need to learn that they ha#e the ability to
control their beha#iors and actions. want to foster thisunderstanding in my
students.
do not think that discipline is helpful. f anything, it gi#es students and
angry feeling toward those who discipline them and lea#es them angry, in general.
would much rather use non#erbal cues to try to suelch beha#iors do not want.
f need to escalate to #erbal discussion, will be prepared for that as my net
step. really feel that it is important, socially, for students this age to start learning
howto be responsible for their learning and beha#iors. epect them to do as they
are epected or deal with
the natural conseuences.
:hallenging students is often something that teachers do not do enough of.
f a task is too easy, students get bored and get into mischief. f it+s too hard, they
get frustrated and often get into mischief.

n order for a student to successfully learn, heAshe needs to ha#e a positi#e
relationship with the teacher. n order to build this relationship, want to show my
students, through my actions, that care about them and their education. want
my students to feel like they belong and are cared for in myclassroom. n order to

Classroom 'ayout (Artifact )
)he thought of a classroom layout is eciting to me. t can show how
welcoming and in#ol#ed want to be, as a teacher. feel that group (&8-! work is
an essential component of learning for middleschool students. 3y room will be
set up with tables sitting up to four students. )his will allow for indi#idual and
group work. f tables are not a#ailable, would put four desks together, but making
sure that the group is angled to be able to see the teacher and the teacher to see
them from almost anywhere
in the room. )he teacher+s desk would be located at
the back of the room, behind all of the desks, in acorner. )here will be
bookshel#es located in the opposite corner. feel that miscellaneous topic books
are necessary for students to be around. Other books may be tetbooks or
resources for me. )hen, asyou are looking at the room from across the door, the
front of the classroom has a big open area forstudents to walk through. )his is
also where the proGector would be pulled up to or connected. )herewill be a
proGection screen and dry erase board located at the front of the room. 0 small
table wherework should be turned in also sits at the front of the room. t will be
the location for me to set my class items for class time and lecture, if necessary.
Monitoring Classroom and esponding to Student Misehavior(Artifact *)
Bhen responding to student beha#iors, try to consider that these students
are made to sit still and be uiet for *J hours a day. know that is not possible for
me. try to take that into considerationand allow the fact that some students ha#e
a hard time sitting still. )hat would not bother me in a class.0s a matter of fact,
would e#en let students stand as long as they are acti#ely learning. am a person
who is acutely aware of my surroundings and uite aware of people+s attention. f

get focused. f this continues, will start walking around the room a little more,
especially near that person. belie#e that usually students areaware this is a tactic
and try to straighten up. roimity is my maGor line of defense for beha#iors. f the
beha#ior still continues, will directly address it while in the classroom.
Howe#er, there are a few things that would ha#e to address. refuse to allow
students to
mistreat (#erbally or physically! or e#en make rude comments to each
other. Bhen this occurs, will ask the o"ending student to come up with a form of
an apology, in pri#ate, for the one o"ended. wantstudents to try to grasp the
concept of treating others in a human8like way. will denitely address this in my
$?pectations lesson at the beginning of school but will also keep reminding

discussion and engagement, and notengaging in argumentati#e beha#ior with
students can and will help with beha#iors. would like to try and deal with beha#iors
within my room through a con#ersation with the student at the time that it occurs,
rather than sending a student to the oIce. do notwant to engage the student in
hisAher beha#ior because it Gust creates a cycle of misbeha#ior (see
artifact %!. want students to reali/e that they are responsible for their own actions and beha#ior.
Ob#iously, there will be rules made by the school and made by the district
that will adhere to.)hese rules are made for a purpose and will try my best to
adhere to them and to remind students of them, also.

our students. )here
will be some familial relationships that are not the best, and
will also ha#e to take this into
consideration. Howe#er, think that before schoole#en starts, would like to send out a parent sur#ey for them to ll out about their

2epending on what school district work in, these may or may not be actual
uestions that send to parents. )his would in#ol#e uestions that ask about their
child+s fa#orite thing about school, ways of learning and if the parents feel the
students ha#e too muchAnot enough homework. also would want to know if
students ha#e an adult at home who would be comfortable helping the student
withhomework, if needed. Gust want to get a feel of the child from the parents+
perspecti#e. )he way thatparents ll these out will e#en gi#e me insight into the
life of the child. t will help me see if might ha#e
an o#erly in#ol#ed parent andhow they want to stay connected or that might ha#e a parent who is notso
in#ol#ed.
0s a parent, ha#e gotten many phone calls after phone call about my son+s
beha#ior. Honestly, they were beha#iors that the teacher should ha#e dealt with
and reali/ed that is Gust my son+s personality. know that parents only want to be
called if it is a serious situation. feel that for the mostpart, sending an email will
suIce. (How they would want to be contacted would be a uestion on the
uestionnaire.!

class schedules and topics that they are learning about. ro#iding a weekly email
about the classroom goings on would be a great way for communication with parents.

)he purpose is to allow students to see how they can contribute to a group
and how it is
necessary for the whole group to be complete. )he instructor should

should also be drawing materials and craft items to decorate the pu//lepieces.
?ach student takes a piece of the pu//le and decorates it according to their ownlikes, dislikes,

teacher can put the pu//le in a frame to hang up for the classes to remind
students how they are a team.

)he instructor eplains that this eercise will take self8control. 3embers pair
up and stand back to back. On the count of three, e#eryone must face their
partner, look each other in the eyes, and then
try to remain solemn and serious.7o speaking )he rst to smile or laugh must sit down. 0ll who remain standing
then take a new partner and the acti#ity continues until only one person has not
smiles or laughed. (Second round of playing can in#ol#e two teams competing to
outlast each other.! f you get a pair at the end, who are both keeping a straight
face, the rest of the group can act as hecklers to
disrupt them.

I believe that all students can and will learn at
high
levels regardless of their ethnicity,
