AWARENESS
Loneliness has the same risk as smoking for heart disease (Harvard Health, 2016).
Loneliness is chief public health concern that is being made worse by COVID-19.
Emotional eating: craving food and other rewarding stimuli, may contribute to “social craving” when one is lonely.
Loneliness impacts both physical and mental health (Hawkley & Cacioppo, 2010).
HEALTH FACTORSLONELINESS
According to AARP (2019) Scientists found that loneliness and isolation can lead to a wide range of negative health consequences and makes us more vulnerable to:
Alzheimer’s disease
High Blood Pressure
Cardiovascular disease
Common Cold
Depression
Substance misuse
Stress
Suicide
Premature Death
GRIEF

SLEEP DEPRIVATION
Chronic loneliness can trigger insomnia and other sleep disorders, especially in elderly individuals.
The quality of the sleep.
The Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School affirms that insufficient and poor amounts or quality of sleep can have many adverse consequences:
Impairs learning abilities,
Decreased retention of information
Impairs judgment.
Sleep Quality Restores Us (Ohayon, 2005; Hawkley, Cacioppo, 2010).

SENSE OF SELF
Importance of Sense of Self
Knowing Yourself is Essential- (Mind, Body and Soul)
Keep your Moral Compass- (Never give up on God)
People with a poor sense of self tend to have less committed relationships and are more likely to experience emotional isolation, loneliness, and depression.
COMMIT TO HEALING
Be Honest with yourself.
We must commit to a lifetime of Healing.
This self-awareness can play a role in the type of relationships you forge as well as the strength and durability of those social connections.
ERIK ERIKSON’S STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT
Erikson’s Psychosocial Stages Summary Chart - Bing images
Erikson believed having a fully formed sense of self was essential in earlier stages of development.
REVIEWSTAGES OF DEVELOPMENT
Intimacy vs Isolation – 6th Stage (19-40)
Major conflict at this stage of life centers on forming intimate, loving relationships with other people.
Struggling at this stage can result in feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Factors that may lead to risk of loneliness:
Childhood trauma, divorce, death of partner, fear of commitment, and past relationships.
Generativity vs Stagnation – 7th Stage
(40- 65) Middle Age
Adults in this stage strive to create or nurture things that will outlast them; often by parenting children or contributing to positive changes that benefit other people.
Contributing to society and doing things to benefit future generations are important needs at the generativity versus stagnation stage ofdevelopment.
