The Chinese believe that good energy leads to abundance and happiness while
bad energy leads to negativity and unhappiness. They created the art and sci-
ence of Feng Shui to help harness the power of good energy in the home and
expel the effects of bad energy. In Chinese, Feng means wind and Shui means
water. Both are associated with good health and prosperity which is why the
art is so highly regarded in the east.
There are those of us in the west who see the value in what the Chinese have
known for years. As we focus more on the energy we expend and take in, we
discover that we have more control over our lives than we originally believed.
Feng Shui gives us the opportunity to exercise that control by directing the
flow of energy in our lives. The good news is that you don’t have to hire a Feng
Shui consultant to introduce the benefits of good energy to your home. For
those of you looking for a way to maximize your income, you can use the ba-
sics of Feng Shui to help you achieve your goal.

Invite Prosperity In Whenever you decide you want to make a change in your life the first thing
you must do is get rid of the old to make room for the new. The basic tenets
of Feng Shui work the same way. If you want prosperity, you must make room
and invite it in. The easiest way to do that is with your front door. It is the ener-
gy nexus of your home. Think about it. When you leave, you take what you’re
feeling with you into your day. When you come home, you bring in all that has
happened to you throughout the day.
The first order of business is to clear the clutter from around your door. If you
and your family store shoes, coats, equipment, toys, or any other items by the
front door, move them. The clutter blocks the free flow of energy, and it pre-
vents abundance from entering your life. If you want to maximize your income,
then move all that clutter somewhere else. Next, check to make sure the door
opens easily and quietly. Oil any squeaky hinges, clean the glass if it is dirty,
and paint the door if it needs it. Incidentally, a red door welcomes prosperity
into your home.

In the Chinese culture, the number three signifies wealth, so it is quite prom-
inent in Feng Shui. Once the front area is clean, you can hang three Chinese
coins tied together with a red ribbon from your door handle. Tie the coins on
the inside and visualize the money flowing into your house every time you
open your door. You can also buy a three-legged frog with a coin in its mouth
to attract wealth. You can typically find these in Asian grocery stores or shops,
or you can find them online. If you can’t find a three-legged frog with a coin,
you can always insert a coin yourself. The best place for your frog is diagonal
from the front door and under a foyer table. Also make sure the entryway is
well-lit. Natural light is best, so keep the blinds open during the day, but lamps
and other forms of light help, as well.

De-Clutter Every Room Energy is all around us, all the time. The Chinese believe that positive energy,
known as chi, can become blocked by clutter. When energy is blocked, it be-
comes stagnate and then
turns to negative energy.
That is why one of the main
principles of Feng Shui is
that you must de-clutter
your home. It’s important
to remember that getting
rid of the old makes way for
the new.
Start by clearing out everything that doesn’t need to be there. If you haven’t
used or thought about something in six months or more, get rid of it. Choose
a minimalist style with your furniture and decorations. Keep your space clear,
and place live plants in red and purple throughout to encourage the flow of
wealth. When choosing plants for your house, consider that bamboo is partic-
ularly lucky in the Chinese culture, but also, anything with round leaves works
well as the shape of the leaves resemble coins.
Wind chimes also attract good chi and wisdom. Hang a wind chime over your
desk or work space to increase prosperity in that area. The idea is that your
wealth will increase as your performance improves in your work life. You can
also hang wind chimes in windows that you open frequently to invite abun-
dance into your home.
You need to make sure that everything in your house has a place. If it doesn’t
have a place, it is considered clutter. Sometimes it can be challenging to get rid

of things that we don’t need, but in doing so, we free up more of our energy
to devote to the things we want. If your resistance to getting rid of items is the
fact that you spent money on them, then consider selling them. You can hold
a garage sale, list them on Craigslist or eBay, or you can take them to consign-
ment shops.
If you’re worried you will need something as soon as you throw it away, then
you are holding on to old energy patterns that block your chi moving forward.
Consider relationships. When we hold on to the baggage from old relation-
ships, they tend to carry over into new relationships, and usually, that baggage
causes issues in the new relationship. If you were with someone for five years
and they cheated on you, you may carry the belief that all partners cheat, and
so you never give your new partner the opportunity to prove you wrong. You
accuse them of cheating, even if they aren’t, and it causes a fight until eventu-
ally you break up. It’s the same concept with clutter in your home. If you carry
all that old clutter around, there is no room in your life for new things. Abun-
dance and prosperity will pass you by because you’re too busy holding on to
lack and clutter.

Pay Attention to Your Wealth SectorIf you hired a trained consultant to come in and help you balance the energy
of your home, he or she would consider when the building was built and your
birthday to help you accurately pinpoint the wealth sector of your home. You
can hire a consultant to do that, but it is generally accepted that the southeast
corner of your home is your wealth sector.
To maximize your wealth, you can find the southeast corner of each room
and place something that attracts wealth. The best objects are those that use
energy, such as fish tanks, live plants, or fountains. These items help keep the
energy flowing through each room. In the southeast corner of the house as a
whole, you should create an alter-like area where you hold the majority of your
items that represent wealth. For instance, this area is a great place to hang
your vision board, pictures of things you want to buy or that wealth represents
to you, or framed money. One of the best items to place in this area is a fish
tank. Fish are constantly in motion, and water is a major part of Feng Shui. As
you feed the fish, imagine the Universe feeding you abundance.

Bathroom and Kitchen AreasIt’s worth repeating that to achieve good Feng Shui energy in your home, you
need to clear the clutter. The bathroom and kitchen areas are no different. In
the kitchen, make sure your stove and refrigerator are clean, orderly, and also
in good working order. The stove is most often associated with wealth, so if
you want to improve the flow of wealth in your life, make sure your stove isn’t
stacked with pots and pans.
Feng Shui practitioners believe that water can wash away money chi. Con-
sultants recommend plugging sinks with rubber stoppers when they aren’t
in use to prevent the energy from flowing down the drain. You can also use
rocks or pebbles instead of a rubber stopper. The rocks help form a barricade
while also creating a pleasing aesthetic. You should also make sure that nei-
ther the faucets or the toilets are running. Proper maintenance and care of
these sometimes overlooked appliances not only saves you money, but from a
Feng Shui perspective, it helps keep the good energy in the house, which then
invites abundance.

Bedroom AreasAs with all the other rooms in the house, bringing life and energy to the room
is important. The easiest way to do that is with live plants. Choose flowers in
red and purple to invite wealth into the room. Just remember that dead plants
are a source of negative energy. If you don’t take care of the plant, don’t leave
it sitting in your room to stagnate the flow you’re trying to create.
Open your windows and let fresh air into the room. Stale, stagnant air blocks
energy, so open your windows at least once a day to promote air flow. The
fresh air does wonders to change the feeling of a room. You can hang three
coins tied with a red ribbon by the window to keep the good energy in, or you
can hang a wind chime in the window.
Make sure that you pay attention to your bed. If you feel particularly low in
energy, it could be related to your bed. First, do not position your bed directly
in line with your door. This depletes a room’s energy, and it messes with your
sleep patterns. Second, make sure your bed is clean and tidy. Fresh sheets are
a start, but it’s also important to clean the dust and dander from your bed.
Take time to vacuum your bed once a week, and make sure you change the
mattress every eight years, as recommended. To improve the wealth of your
space, try attaching three coins tied together with a red ribbon on all four
posts of the bed.
Avoid storing a lot of electronics in bedrooms. The constant hum of electricity
and blinking lights disrupts the flow of energy, and it is difficult to relax in that
environment. If you must have electronics in the room, be sure to put them
away when you’re not using them. It’s best to avoid putting a television in the
room, especially a room shared by romantic partners. Aside from disrupting
the energy in the room, it also puts a damper on romantic relationships.

Finally, make sure items in the room have a proper place, are grouped in twos
and threes, and that there is order and unity to the room. Visual symmetry
provides peace of mind, and it keeps the energy flowing through the room
evenly. Hang pictures in pairs, keep your throw pillows balanced on your bed,
and arrange your books in an orderly fashion.

Outside AreasThe outside area follows the same rule as the inside of the house. The wealth
sector is located in the southeast corner of the yard. Ensure that the yard is
properly trimmed and cleared of trash. Once you locate the right corner of the
yard, plant a garden and install a fountain. You can also include other symbols
of wealth, such as a windmill, wind chimes, or weather vanes. You can plant red
and purple perennial flowers in the area, place the lawn furniture in groups of
three, and install a fish pond. You can use many of the same techniques you
used for the wealth sectors inside your home.

Practitioners of Feng Shui discovered the many benefits of the practice long
before it was popular in the west. When it comes to wealth, a properly bal-
anced home can lead to great success. If you would like to see more wealth
and abundance in your life, start with these ideas and expand the energy in
your home. In the east, those who find success through Feng Shui techniques
do not sell their homes once they become millionaires. They keep it for luck
and continued good energy, even if they move into a new house.
When you find the right balance in your home, you’ll be able to experience
success on a different level. Everything we do is controlled by the energy we
put into it. If you have been unsuccessful in areas of your life, consider what
may be blocking your chi, and how you can overcome those blocks. There are
many methods, but Feng Shui is a good practice to help release stagnated
energy and usher in good energy. Those who find the right balance in their
homes discover that their wealth increases much more than just getting by
and paying the bills. They discover that with the right energy in place, they at-
tract the kind of wealth necessary to retire. Feng Shui is an ancient science and
art that many people have had success with, and it’s possible for you to have
that same success, as well.
