One of the things I love about Senior Night is the public acknowledgment of all the great things our students do. Not only do we list their school accomplishments, which are always impressive, but we also list the community activities that benefit from our student’s creativity and generosity. The list of nonprofit volunteering that this particular class does is phenomenal! They have supported Trees Atlanta, Girl Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Rotary’s Interact Club, Small Dog Rescue, Fur Kids, North Fulton Community Charities, a number of churches and charitable 5K runs! Kudos to the teens and their parents who support their philanthropic endeavors! This week we hosted the Argentina Teacher of the Year, Valeria Macedo. We have hosted the Argentina Teacher of the Year for the last four years as a partner with Roswell Rotary Club. The teacher from Argentina comes over in early Spring (their summer) and we have a local Roswell teacher who travels there for two weeks in July. Valeria spent time learning about our innovative Middle School reading program, interacting with our students in the High School Spanish classes, and observing the techniques our teaching staff uses for creative writing, and individualized prescriptive programming. Our staff and students were very impressive and impressed. It is always a benefit for our community to engage with professionals from other countries. We learn that in the big things in life, we are very much alike. It is the little things that make us unique. As we move closer to Valentine’s Day we begin to plan for our school celebration, which will be held on February 13th. Our Student Council will be selling carnations and candy grams to be delivered to students and staff. The money raised goes toward our prom expenses. Remember that the TCS prom is open to all High School students, so the expense is shared by all. Know that we keep an eye on the process to be sure that every student is acknowledged. It is important to us that this be a day of positive feelings and we will do all we can to promote that! We are exploring options for our summer programming, both in-house and with other agencies. Last week we talked with representatives from our local Boy Scout Council who are offering to partner with us for a Venturing troop. Venturing is a youth development program of the BSA for young men AND women who are between 14 and 21. Venturing’s purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. They would meet several times a month, plan their adventure and enjoy a variety of healthy activities together. The link I have listed is a survey that will allow us to assess the interest level. We are also considering adding this as a club option for the next school year. Please check out http://www.scouting.org/filestore/venturing/pdf/510-013WB.pdf. We have sent several reminders about the 2013-2014 enrollment contracts over the last few weeks. The first round of discounts is no longer in effect, but there is still a benefit to letting us know if we should plan for your teen for next year. We have begun to accept enrollment contracts from new families and by the end of this month we will begin specific planning for classes and staffing needs. Please let us know your intent as soon as you can.

TCS Golf
Team Information
We are very excited about your interest in the Cottage School Golf
Team. There are some things you and your parents will need to know
before you get started
1. Our season is scheduled to begin with practices on February 19th.
a. Practices will be held at Steel Canyon Golf Course Tuesday through Friday and pickup will be
at The Cottage School at 6:00 PM (alternative arrangements can be made if necessary).
b. Home matches will also be held at Steel Canyon; however, adjusted pickup times for those
dates will be listed in the season schedule. Match schedule is available on the TCS website at
http://cottageschool.org/school/?page_id=1996.
2. There is a cost associated with participating in this sport.
a. Students qualifying for the team will need to pay a one-time fee of $250. This cost covers TCS
sports fees, greens fees, and entry fees for all tournaments throughout the season.
b. Students will need to furnish their own equipment. This will consist of clubs, gloves,
appropriate footwear, tees, balls, and team shirt.
3. Because of the nature of golf as a high school sport, the team may consist of only seven players. In
the event that there is an extraordinary amount of interest, it may be necessary to hold a
performance assessment to establish our team roster.
a. Team selection will be based on a number of factors
i. Existing skill and understanding of the game
ii. Availability to participate in practice and competition
iii. Apparent potential
iv. Conduct on the course
We look forward to having you as a part of our Cougar Golf Team and we are very excited about the
upcoming season. If you have any questions, please contact me, James Prentice, during the school day. I
am available by e-mail [email protected] or my school phone number (770)-641-8688 ext. #5122.
