Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome to Sacred Heart Church!
It is a blessing to have you join our worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the Presentation of the Lord. Your presence and prayerful participation
enrich our Liturgy. May this time in prayer strengthen your faith and lift your spirit. Thanks for joining us! This weekend the Church celebrates the Lord Jesus being presented in the Temple by Mary and Joseph. This occurs forty days after the Birth of Jesus. It follows the “Old Law” that stipulates the first born was to be presented in the Temple, to present him to the Lord. “Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,” says the Law of the Lord. This is considered another “epiphany,” as Jesus is revealed as the Christ, the Messiah, by Simeon and Anna. May we, too, reveal Jesus through our acts of compassionate charity. In Baptism, our parents presented us to the Lord. In a sense, they dedicated us to the Lord in the waters of Baptism. Today you follow through on that “presentation” as you entered this Church, this Temple. Today, you present yourself to the Lord. In presenting ourselves, we seek to be nourished and strengthened in our dedication to Jesus. Like Simeon and Anna, we hope to be witnesses to Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah. In a way, we are the “messengers” the Prophet Malachi speaks of in today’s First Reading. In moments of reflection, it would be well for us to ponder the messages we give in our interaction with one another. What do we communicate in our words and the manner we express ourselves, the tone of our voices. May the messages we give one another reveal Jesus alive and well in our lives. Peace be with you! God bless,
Fr. McKee
P.S. Many thanks to HASA & CYO Boards and all who worked to make “The Night at the Races” a great success.
