Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce Newsletter
I’m happy to report we are 191 members strong! Membership is up 5% from this same time period last year due in large part to the efforts of our terrific membership committee. Thank
you to Heather Anderson (Bethpage Federal Credit Union), Joseph Leone (Safeguard by Bradley Marketing Group), Chris Dudley (People's United Bank), John Jessup (Rita's Italian Ices) and Dr. Chris Wider (Priestley Chiropractic) for working to help our chamber grow.
One benefit of membership in the Chamber is the opportunity to meet and get to know other people and local businesses. We don’t schedule luncheon meetings during July and August but our very popular After Hours events will continue throughout summer (see page 2 for details). Thank you to Rose Larsen for organizing these meet-ups. We’re also working on another joint chamber event for the fall. You will be notified by email as soon as the plans
are complete.
Small business owners comprise approximately 70% of our chamber’s membership. The chamber hosted an event at Allen Park’s Community Center to acknowledge National Small Business Week (May 1 – 7, 2016). Dave Saul and Dan Kornfeld worked together to present
an informative marketing seminar. We hope those members who attended learned some useful information to increase their businesses.
The chamber sponsored the Kiwanis Farmingdale Festival on May 14. Members were invited
to drop off promotional materials for display and were given the opportunity to man our tent to meet residents. Thank you for your help Mark Wenzel, YES Community Counseling; Rose Larsen, Douglas Eliman RE, Joan Flaumenbaum, Prevete Century 21 RE; Steve Levine, Farmingdale Village Laundromat; Patti Greco, Humana; Donna Huebner, Autocraft Service Center; Joseph Minieri, MetLife; Dan Kornfeld, 2SK Marketing and Jo Wider, Farmingdale
Chamber.
Stew Leonard’s treated chamber members to breakfast at their Farmingdale store on May 17. Stew Leonard Jr., President & CEO of the family-owned farm fresh food grocer, shared his expert insight on customer service, creating happy Team Members (staff) and family
business management. Ken Marcus (Allstate) won an enormous gift basket through Stew Leonard’s Gift Basket division (StewLeonardsgifts.com). Stew’s offers businesses fresh fruit and delicious baked and gourmet baskets to show your appreciation to a valued customer, say thanks to a new client, or congratulate an associate. They can even create custom lids with your logo!
A heartfelt thank you to all of our Veterans as we ended the month with the Memorial Day Parade and a memorial ceremony on the Village Green, conducted by the Veterans of For-eign Wars Post 516. The Chamber expresses our gratitude for those who serve in the mili-
tary and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. They truly deserve to be honored on Me-morial Day, as well as every other day of the year.
A Word from the President - Beth Mignone
