Farber Hebrew Day School – Yeshivat Akiva
53rd Anniversary CelebrationAnnual Dinner
Honoring Henry (Darnell) McGillJune 12, 2017 | ז"ח סיון תשע"י
Greetings!
It is a basic tenant in Judaism to give recognition to a person for the good that they have bestowed upon you. Farber Hebrew Day School -
Yeshivat Akiva has benefitted from Darnell McGill’s service to our school over these past 31 years. Everyone who comes into contact with
Darnell is moved by his dedication to the school, its staff, its students and parents, and with his modesty. Darnell receives everyone with saver
panim yafot – a full smile. He usually anticipates the needs of people and has the job done before the person even asks. When someone does ask
for a favor, he happily obliges. Darnell can always be relied upon.
Ben Zoma teaches: (אבות ד)את הבריות המכבד ? איזהו מכובד Who is an honorable person? – The one who honors humanity.
Darnell is the living embodiment of this teaching. So many of us have been taught by Darnell not from preaching but by example. It is our
honor this year to honor Darnell McGill at our annual dinner.
May Darnell and we be blessed with many more years of his service at our school.
With Torah Blessings,
Rabbi Scot A. Berman Leah Ann KleinfeldtHead of School President, Board of Directors

arnell,
Growing up in the hallways of the old Akiva building, the memories fill our heads of you smiling, with your Detroit tigers hat
on, while wiping down tables, stacking tables on the side and dry mopping the floor for us to play basketball, cleaning the
hallways and classrooms, and most importantly, letting us into the building late at night when we left our books and homework
in school.
We have always appreciated your hard work and we want to congratulate you on a well-deserved honor. Keep smiling and being
Darnell – you were and always will be a great role model for all of the students attending Farber Hebrew Day School –
Yeshivat Akiva.
Go Darnell and Tigers!

are always ready to do.

Darnell,
We were there when you started at Akiva. We all had a very close relationship with your
predecessor, Willy Davis, and it did not take us long to see how special you were as well.
Over the years you have been there to help and take care of our beloved buildings, but
more importantly, you took care of us, and now some of our children.
Our Jewish Sages teach us: “Say little and do much!” Avot 1:15; you epitomize that
statement. You go above and beyond for the kids, the staff and the building.
Thank you for everything that you do.

A FOUNDER AND PIONEER OF AKIVA HEBREW DAY SCHOOL
DAVE’S COMMITMENT TO JEWISH EDUCATION ALONG WITH HIS DEVOTION TO THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF METROPOLITAN DETROIT WAS

to support their educational needs.
Without your support, we could never meet this need.
