In the synagogue of Nazareth, Jesus
stood up and was handed the scroll of
the prophet Isaiah, and from it he
read:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty
to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable
to the Lord.
Then he said to the people: “Today this
Scripture passage is fulfilled in your
hearing.”

MEETING – 7:00 PM
Tuesday, Feb. 2nd, in the
Rectory
EVENING FOR
MARRIED COUPLES Valentine’s Day Weekend
Would you like to
learn more about
yourself and your
spouse, and how to
make your
relationship even
better?
Take the Myers-Briggs
Personality Inventory.
These will be scored
by Jim Krisher,
Director of the
Spiritual Renewal
Center in Syracuse.
The Myers-Briggs is
one of the most time-
tested and non-
threatening of
psychological
inventories.
Then, after Mass on
Saturday, Feb. 13th,
there will be a Dish-
to-Pass Supper for
married couples, after
which Jim Krisher will
return to each person
his/her scored
inventory and explain
to the whole group
how to interpret their
results.
Babysitting will be
provided in the
Rectory, beginning at
5:00 PM.
Jim Krisher did this at
St. Malachy’s about
eight years ago, and it
proved to be, not only
a fun evening, but
also a moment of
enlightenment, and
deeper understanding
and mutual
appreciation between
spouses – “Ah, Now I
understand why she
thinks the way she
thinks”, or, “Now I
understand where
he’s coming from!”
Please sign up in the
vestibule if you would
like to participate.
Each person must do
the personal
inventory by Sunday,
Feb. 7th. It takes 30-
45 minutes to
complete. Fr. Smith
will conduct one or
more sessions for
people to do the
inventory. This is
being offered free.
Are you or is someone you
know in special need of
prayers? Ask St. Malachy’s
Prayer Chain to pray for that
need by calling Joyce at 674-

Chain.

quarterly check for the

the beauty and genius of
the Gospel to every aspect
of your life, from prayer
and spirituality, to work,
dating, marriage, parenting,
health and more!
A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE -
Today’s Gospel relates that
Jesus was “praised by all”,
except in the synagogue in
his hometown, where “the
eyes of all were intently
upon him.” Acceptance
can be hard to find at
home due to unreal
expectations. Jesus
challenges us to “proclaim
liberty” to anyone
“oppressed” by our
expectations of them.
WORLD MARRIAGE DAY
- All married couples are
invited to join Bishop
Cunningham for a
special Mass in the
Cathedral at 2:30 PM on

Cultivating a Healthy, Christian Self-Love
Do you love yourself? Is self-love a good thing? In
the New Testament, Jesus assumes that we would
love ourselves and it is presented as the basis for our
love of others. What does healthy Christian self-love
look like? How does it relate to other biblical ideals
like self-denial? How does it relate to psychological
concepts like self-acceptance or having a positive
self-image? Jim Krisher, director of the Spiritual
Renewal Center, in one of his most requested
presentations, will discuss the meaning and the
practice of healthy Christian self-love. He will draw
on insights from scripture and the spiritual tradition,
psychology, and his nearly four decades of
experience as a spiritual director.

Maintaining Spiritual Wholeness While
Caring for Others
Without attending to the spiritual dimension in our
lives, the role of caregiving for a loved one who
suffers from chronic illness, old age or disability can
become overwhelming. It can be relentless in its
demands, placing great stress on the caregiver and
distort the relationship. This can create guilt, anger,
frustration, loneliness, and sickness. If you are a
caregiver, join us as we explore ways of remaining
open to caregiving as an opportunity for spiritual
growth. Our presenter is Rev. Dr. Virginia Smith,
one of our staff spiritual directors, and a specialist in
spiritual issues related to aging, illness, and end of
life.
