About the UniversityFounded in 1971, National University is the second-
largest, private, nonprofit institution of higher
learning in California. It was among the first to
recognize and focus on the unique needs of
nontraditional learners. Its distinctive and intensive
one-course-per-month format, multiple locations,
and onsite and online programs enable students to
complete graduate and undergraduate degrees in
an accelerated time frame while maintaining family
and work responsibilities.
National is comprised of the College of Letters
and Sciences and five schools: Business and
Management; Education; Engineering and
Technology; Health and Human Services; and
Media and Communication.

Streamlined AdmissionsAdmission is based on previous academic record,
professional experience, motivation, and

Student Concierge ServiceThe Student Concierge Service is the student’s
point of contact for all National University
questions. Specialists from the Student Concierge
Service are available from 7 a.m. to midnight to

Library ResourcesThe National University Library has more than
285,000 volumes, including one of the largest
e-Book collections in the United States. The Library
contains 80 electronic databases, over 18,000 full
text journals, and services for online users,
including Journal Direct, Books Direct, RefDesk

One-Course-Per-Month FormatAn intensive, one-course-per-month format
creates a concentrated, focused approach. Classes
are geared to accommodate the busy schedules of
students so they can attend classes in the evenings,
weekends, or online. The accelerated format enables
students to complete 12 courses per year if they so
choose compared to the traditional nine courses.

Online ProgramsNational University offers 40 fully online degree
programs that incorporate the latest advances in
technology to provide a dynamic, interactive
learning environment. Students have access to
quality education via the Internet, 24 hours a day,
seven days a week.
Technology ResourcesStudents can access their class schedules, grades,
academic, and financial aid information via the
student web portal.
More than 64 student computer labs containing
2,829 PCs are available at National University labs
and libraries. Web-based video conferencing is
available at 26 sites.
E-mail, the Internet, e-conferencing, and other
multimedia tools are incorporated into National
University’s on-campus and online courses.
Online FeaturesNational University offers unparalleled technical
support for online students. Knowledgeable help
desk support is available via e-mail or phone
24 hours a day, seven days a week. Online
representatives are available to properly route
your questions or concerns as well as to access
advisors or professors.
Faculty members take time to acquaint
students with the fundamentals of online learning

Financial Aid and ScholarshipProgramsNational offers comprehensive guidance and

Extended LearningThe Division of Extended Learning offers courses
for certificate programs and Continuing Education
Units (CEUs) as well as academic credit. Extended
Learning provides organizational services to support
professional development events such as:
certification training, workshops, seminars, and
conferences. Offerings may be held at regional
centers throughout California, client locations,
online, or by real-time web seminars.
Extended Learning is an Authorized Provider of

• The Academic Competitiveness Grant program
(ACG), which awards grants ranging from $47 to
$2,050 for first- and second-year students who
have successfully completed a rigorous secondary
school program.
• The National SMART Grant, which awards
grants ranging from $250 to $4,000 for third- and
fourth-year PELL eligible students who major in
mathematics, science, technology, engineering, or
critical foreign languages.
• State aid in the form of Cal Grant A and B, which
awards grants ranging from $300 to $9,932.
• Veterans Affairs educational benefits are
available to qualifying military personnel.
• Alternative educational funding is available.
A variety of scholarships, grants, and loans are
available, including:
• The Federal Pell Grant, which awards grants
ranging from $400 to $4,050.
• The Federal Supplemental Educational
Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), like the Pell,
awards grants ranging from $100 to $3,000 on a
limited basis to students with an exceptional
financial need.
• Federal Stafford Student Loans, which offer
students a low fixed interest rate for the life of
the loan.
• Funded on a limited basis, the Federal Perkins
Loans offer students who demonstrate
exceptional need a low interest loan.
• Assumption Program of Loans for Education
(APLE), whereby the California Student Aid
