Please select one of the above depending on what stage your child is at
with their phonics.
On the Ruth Miskin YouTube channel there
are other short videos that can support
parents called parent video: Understanding
Phonics and how to say the sounds. Please
watch these if you feel unsure.
10:30 – 11:30am: Literacy
Read the story Little Red Riding Hood.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDMWJCrDVMI
TASK: Talk to your child about the characters in the story and what
they’re like. Little Red Riding Hood is kind. Why? Because she bought
flowers for her Grandma. The Huntsman is strong. Why? Because he
picked up the wolf and shuck him.
Please find attached resource description sorting:
https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-t-18056-little-red-riding-hood-cut-
and-stick-character-description-sorting-activity
Your child will need help recognising the words and what
they might mean. Ask them to identify the initial sound
so scared begins with the ‘s’ sound. Ask them what does
scared mean? Which character do they think was scared
in the story? Match the words to the character they
think it suits best.
11:30am – 1pm: Lunch and free time
1 – 1:30pm: Maths
One more and Two more
See resource: https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-n-1280-1-more-and-
2-more-activity-sheet
Ask your child what + symbol means? Its means to add!
Ask your child what = symbol means? It means equals!
Use the number line to count on 1 more to 10 and 2 more to 10. Make sure
your child can recognise all the numbers to 10.
If it is 1 more than 5 they find 5 on the numberline and hop over 1 more.
What number do they get? 6! Ask them to write the calculation 5+1=6.
Make sure your child understands to add one more they move over once
on the numberline.
Repeat with adding 2 more.
Two more than 6? Find 6 on the number line and jump over 2 spaces.
What’s the answer? 8!
Ask them to write 6+2=8
1:30 – 2:30pm: Science – Paper towel art!
You will need:
Marker (permanent and washable)
Paper towels
Wash in a small tray
Scissors
Step 1: You will need to prepare your paper towels. Do this by taking
a square of paper towel and folding it in half. Then cut the paper
towel so you end up with a small square with another small square
behind it (see image below)
Step 2: Draw pictures on the paper towels
Now it's time to design your pictures. Take a permanent marker and
draw an image on the top layer of the folded paper towel. Start by
drawing a simple design like a rainbow, you can always get more
adventurous as you get into it!
Step 3:
When you lift up the top layer of the paper towel you will see that
the pen has gone through the paper towel onto the layer below. Now
it is time to colour in this outline or add to your image. Colour the
image with washable markers so the colour bleeds when it is put into
water.
Step 4: Add paper towel art to water!
Now its time for the magical part of this paper towel activity. Make
sure everyone is watching as this happens fast! Place the paper towel
into the water. As the water soaks through the two layers of the
paper towel the colours from the bottom layer will appear through
the top layer of the paper towel making it look as if the colours or
images have appeared by magic.
Have a go with different drawings! Make sure you send a picture or video
of it to your teacher!

10:30 – 11:30am: Literacy
Recap the story of Little Red Riding Hood.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDMWJCrDVMI
Look at the work you completed yesterday. Remember the characters
from the story and how you described them. Today, ask your child to
write some sentences describing the wolf. First ask them to draw a
picture of the wolf. Then underneath write sentences the picture. Remind
your child to use a capital letter at the start of the sentence and a full
stop at the end. Children should be writing sentences like:
The wolf is bad.
He is mean.
He has sharp teeth.
The wolf is hairy.
Remember these sentences have to be phonetically
plausible.
Ask your child to hold the sentence this means they can
remember the order of the words and say them out
loud confidently. Then let them have a go at writing the
sentence independently. This needs to be phonetically
plausible. Phonetically plausible is a word that can be
identified for what it is, even if it is not spelt
correctly. For example:
Teeth – teef
Mean – meen
Wolf – wulf
11:30am – 1pm: Lunch and free time
1 – 1:30pm: Maths

10:30 – 11:30am: Literacy
Explain to your child that the wolf is feeling really bad about what he did
to Red Riding Hood and Grandma so he wants to write a letter saying
sorry. Ask your child if they have ever done something and felt sorry?
Explain to them that sometimes people do things wrong but when we do
we must say sorry and apologise.
See letter writing resource:
https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-t-23817-letter-to-granny-from-
the-wolf-little-red-riding-hood-writing-frame
Write a letter to Grandma from the wolf.
Ask your child to hold the sentence this means they
can remember the order of the words and say them
out loud confidently. Then let them have a go at
writing the sentence independently. This needs to be
phonetically plausible. Phonetically plausible is a word
that can be identified for what it is, even if it is not
spelt correctly. For example:
person – pursun
sorry – soree
wolf – wulf
Remind them of their presentation and handwriting – forming their
letters correctly.

Addition!
Using the same skills as Miss Jackson did yesterday. Complete the Little
Red Riding Hood Addition worksheet. Remember when you use a number
line you need to start on the number and then count on.
See resource:

Wolf from the story?
Here are some ideas:
2:30 – 3pm: Funky Fingers

10:30-11:30am: Literacy
Using the stick puppets you made yesterday ask your child to retell you
the story of Little Red Riding Hood.
Then ask them questions about the story:
What happens first?
What does the Wolf do that is wrong?
What happens to Grandma?
How was Grandma feeling when she was in the Wolfs tummy?
How saves everyone?
How does the Huntsman save them?
What do you think happens to the wolf after he escapes?
Do you think the wolf is sorry for what he did?
Is Red Riding Hood a good character? Why?
TASK: Explain to your child you have a basket to take to your Grandma’s
or Grandad’s or Aunties/Uncles house. What would you put in it? It might
be some green apples or yummy chocolate!
Draw a picture of the items you would put in the
basket and label it. Ask your child to describe the
item instead of just writing apple, they could write
green apple.
Remember the words need to be phonetically
plausible!
Phonetically plausible is a word that can be
identified for what it is, even if it is not spelt
correctly. For example:
person – pursun
sorry – soree
wolf – wulf
Remind them of their presentation and handwriting – forming their
letters correctly.
11:30-1pm: Lunch and free time
1 – 1:30pm: Maths
Ask your child what these symbols mean + addition = equals
Remind them of how to count on a number line starting with the chosen
number and then jumping along. See attached resource:
https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/roi-n-5541-addition-to-10-numberline-
activity-sheets
This resource has 2 sheets one is more difficult than the other. Please do
not worry if your child struggles with the larger numbers! Just make sure
they understand how to start on the chosen number and count along.
1:30 – 2:30pm: LEGO Challenge!
Can you build a Lego house like Grandma’s cottage?
2-3pm: Access Phonics Play. https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk
Play the game picnic on pluto.
Obb and Bob are brothers. Bob loves to eat snacks that are real
words and Obb likes to eat fake words. Click on PHASE 2. Then
Revise all phase 2.
Allow your child to sound out the words. They sound out the
letters for example: hop they would say h – o – p then say them
together: hop. The children need to decide if the word is real or
fake and feed it to the correct alien. Hop is a real word but hep
is a fake word.

Little Red Riding Hood story writing review.
Explain to your child that you are going to write a review on
the story Little Red Riding Hood. Talk to your child about
where the story is set and who the main characters are. Ask
them what happens at the start, middle and end of the story.
See the twinkl resource as a writing frame.
Make sure your child’s writing is phonetically plausible; letters
are formed correctly and encourage neat presentation.
https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-l-979-little-red-riding-
hood-story-review-writing-frame
11:30-1pm: Lunch and free time
1 – 1:30pm: Maths
Read these word problems to your child one by one. Make sure they have
a number line to work from. Encourage them to write out the number
sentence for each calculation.
Little Red Riding Hood picked 4 blue flowers and 3 red flowers,
how many did she pick altogether?
Encourage your child to write 4+3=
Then use the number line to find the answer and write the answer
after the = sign.
4+3=7
The huntsman has 2 pieces of wood and collects 3 more, how many
does he have altogether?
The wolf has eaten 2 of Little Red Riding Hoods cakes he eats 2
more, how many has he eaten altogether?
Grandma has lost 5 teeth she looses another 4 teeth, how many
teeth has grandma lost altogether?
1:30-2:30pm: Play ‘What’s in the box?’
You will need a box with a lid that is large enough for any item you might
put in it. Paper, pens, card, pegs, pasta, bowls, items or pictures to go in
the box.
Place an item or picture in a box and then encouraging your child to ask
questions to find out what the item is. For example, if a teddy bear, they
might ask, “Is it a toy?” “Is it hard or soft?” “Does
it have arms and legs?” “Can it fly?” “Does it move?”
The rules could mean that you will just answer “yes”
or “no” to these questions. Aim to have a limit of 10
questions. Consider keeping count using a tally such
as adding 10 pegs onto a piece of card, placing 10
pieces of pasta in a bowl, 10 ticks on a piece of
paper. Your child will then have to guess after the 10
questions have been asked.
Swap roles and allow your child to answer your
questions.
2:30 – 3pm: Cosmic Yoga
