I am Kristi Casey Sanders, the director of Thought Leadership at MPI. I am passionate about technology, education, meetings and my family. These are the four generations of women in my family. All of us are on Facebook, from my 7-year old daughter to my 95-year-old grandmother – this is her page.
Y Somos adictos al future We are addicted to the future. We love thinking about it. Neurobiologists discovered that when we talk about what’s possible, the pleasure receptors in our brain light up … just as if we were eating chocolate or feeling physical pleasure. It is my hope that as we talk about what’s possible, it will fill you with more great ideas and pleasure than anxiety. Other info if you need it…. Here’s the info about our brains being attracted to future focused research: http://velvetchainsaw.com/2016/04/22/feed-brains-craving-future-foresight/ According to neurobiologists Dr. William Calvin and Dr. David Ingvar, our drive to tell stories about our future is hardwired into our human brain. It is closely linked to our ability to speak and construct language. So much so that future memory is a term coined by Swedish neurologists Ingvar. (The Art Of The Longview by Peter Schawrtz). We crave forward thinking and future foresight.

The first big event technology trend is inteligencia artificial, also known as artificial intelligence or machine learning What is artificial intelligence? Typically you code software to perform a function. Input A, output B. But artificial intelligence isn’t a 1:1 function that tells you what’s probable. It is a mathematical algorithm that spirals out to explore what’s possible, brings back the data and then expands its understanding to find new predictions. In this way, the computer learns and starts to build its own code. It works the way a small child learns from its parents. You teach them the words for water, agua, and milk, leche and eventually they start to form their own sentences and thoughts, filling in the gaps in their knowledge with what they pick up from observing you and others. You know Google Translate? It is powered by artificial intelligence now, which is why this year it got so much better. In order to translate more effectively it created its own language spoken by no human, but which makes more sense to them as a quicker way to translate the word you enter in one language to give you what it means in another language.
Artificial intelligence is used by meeting professionals now to power chatbots. Most of the ones called chatbots are really based on a database that doesn’t learn, but Topi offers a chatbot that truly is powered by artificial intelligence. Chatbots treat conversations like a game of tennis (tenis): Speak, reply, speak, reply in order to mimic human interaction. The best way to use Chatbots right now is to answer frequently asked questions rather than have your staff answer the same questions over and over. Enter the questions attendees always ask into the chatbot. When an attendee asks a question, chatbot serves up your answer and learns how to recognize similar questions and adapt the answers it gives Topi also uses artificial intelligence in its chat room, which is powered by Google Translate. Attendees set a preferred language so no matter what language is being typed by others, they all communications translated into their preferred language in real time. I was at an event in New Orleans where an attendee from Colombia who spoke little English used the chat to communicate with people during social events. The first thing he’d do was to make sure that everyone at the bar or at dinner had Topi loaded up so they could “talk” – he ended up being the most popular person at the event.

Robots are also changing how venues can design conference spaces. Here’s a video that shows how with the touch of a button you can transform Club Regent’s theater
