This qualification is intended or candidates who have reached a standard o productive Englishusage which will create an extremely good impression o their language skills. There would beno need or close supervision and scrutiny o the English o a successul candidate at this level.Linguistic and stylistic errors o all types will be rare.
This examination will test linguistic skills and business knowledge at an advanced level. The

Somequestions will relate to a prompt-card eaturing simple timetablesand diagrams.
Section C (5 minutes) will dealwith the world o work. Thecandidate, prompted by theexaminers questions, will provideinormation about his/her job andplace o work. For candidates notin employment a drawn picture
(supplied by LCCI) depictingcharacters in a range o fields owork will be used. The candidatewill choose one o the charactersand be asked to talk about theirjob and place o work.
Section D (5 minutes) will be apicture description where thecandidate will answer questionson a previously unseen, drawnpicture with a business setting.The purpose is to test vocabularyand tenses.
Section E (5 minutes) will be arole play, building on the situation
depicted in the picture or SectionD. The exchanges will be moreopen ended and less scriptedthan at Preliminary level, so thatthe candidate can demonstratean ability to take part in astraightorward dialogue. Thecandidate will be given a cue cardsupplied by LCCI, outlining thetask.

The candidate will studya map or diagram (based on awork situation) and listen to arecorded announcement. Thesubsequent questions askedby the examiner will assess thecandidates ability to understandspoken inormation and apply itto path-finding tasks. At leastone question will require thecandidate, using the map or
diagram, to provide directions toa destination.
Section D (5 minutes) will bea reading comprehension taskusing written inormation orrealia. The candidate will begiven a written document (orexample, an advertisement or anannouncement) and be expectedto answer questions relating to it.
Section E (5 minutes) will bea discussion, initiated by theexaminer and based on thedocument or section D, toassess the candidates ability toexpress preerences, opinions,agreement/disagreement andevaluation.

Section B (5 minutes) willbe a reading comprehensionexercise based on an item opersonal history and work-related inormation or realia.The candidate will be askedto study this briefly and thenanswer questions. The purposeo this section is to introducethe business scenario and testcomprehension o key vocabulary.
Section C (10 minutes) will bea listening comprehension task.The candidate will listen to arecorded dialogue (which ollowson rom the business scenarioestablished in Section B) and take
notes. Ater hearing the dialoguethe candidate will be asked torelate the main points o thedialogue and suggest remedies orpredict outcomes or the situationoutlined in the dialogue.
Section D (10 minutes) will be areading comprehension task. Thecandidate will study a businessletter or report (which urtherdevelops the business scenarioestablished in sections B and C)and then briefly relay the contentsand explain certain expressionsselected by the examiner.

Candidates will be assessed bymeans o a 40 minute, one-to-one interview with an LCCI SEFICexaminer. The interview will consisto our sections:
Section A (5 minutes) will bean introductory conversationencompassing personal history,plus a variety o business-relatedtopics (including one o currentinterest) enabling the candidateto demonstrate a wide range ovocabulary and expressions inboth amiliar and unamiliar topicareas. (The candidates Special
Topic will be excluded.) Section B (15 minutes - o which
the discussion will be a minimumo 5 minutes) will be a businesspresentation on the candidatesprepared topic. At the starto this section the candidatewill provide the examiner witha written synopsis (about 200words), using bullet points orheadings and double spacing.The examiner will ask ollow-up questions leading into thediscussion phase in which thecandidate will be expected torespond ully to a wide range oquestions, providing examplesand clarification as appropriate.
Section C (10 minutes) will bea listening comprehension task.The candidate will listen to arecorded dialogue (played once),take notes and then relay themain points o the dialogue tothe examiner. Aterwards thecandidate will be required todiscuss and suggest a solutionto the (problematic) situationoutlined by the speakers in thedialogue.
Section D (10 minutes) will be
a reading comprehension task.The candidate will be asked tostudy two or more sources oinormation (ie a report plusa graph or chart) supplied byLCCI. Another question, worth 35 marks, will be an extended written business communication task. Thiscould be in the orm o a letter or memorandum.
A third question, worth 20 marks, will involve a ollow up task where candidates will be required towrite a ax or compose a message, a written instruction or a notice, or complete a orm, in order toobtain or give additional inormation or make a reservation.
