LITERATURE LINK
Literature is critical to movies; try listing
books that have been turned into movies.
Character- driven plots: Independent
movies are known for this style of plotting, with less emphasis on
action.
―Peaches‖, ―Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been‖, and ―The Red Convertible‖ are all character-driven plots; action is central to understanding the character.
Let’s Look at Reginald McKnight’s ―Peaches‖– (P. 71)
―Peaches‖ by Reginald McKnight
Protagonist: Rita Antagonist: Marc
Describe each character: what do we observe v.
what can we infer?
The plot is about the changes Rita has made: what has happened between Rita and Marc? What role does the family play?
―Peaches‖ by Reginald McKnight
Discuss the title ―Peaches‖: how is it ironic? How is it fitting?
The story begins and ends with Rita interacting with her family; why?
Describe Rita’s world: what does the relationship w/ Marc give to her? What is the insight Rita achieves at the end?
Will Rita’s sensitivity get in the way of her goals, or has it helped her leave a situation that would not work?
