Description of the Webinar:
This webinar gives an outline of the primary risks and challenges that your staff and
contracted personnel confront, while working with electrical sources at the worksites.
Participants will develop an understanding of the requirements of OSHA Sub Part "S" and
NFPA, 70E and will be able to identify and reduce or eliminate electrical safety hazards in their
workplace. In addition, participants will gain knowledge regarding energy sources including
electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal or other sources in machines
and equipment that could be hazardous to workers. During the servicing and maintenance of
machines and equipment, the unexpected startup or release of stored energy could cause
injury to employees.

To understand the issues regarding electrical safety in the workplace, key electrical terms which are essential
to understand and meet the requirements of key electrical safety standards; i.e. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.331-.335,
NFPA 70E, NEC (NFPA 70), define and differentiate between qualified and unqualified persons under OSHA,
Sub Part S. and the training requirements for each. Describe the intent of an Electrical Safety Program and
list the essential elements of an effective program.
Use a "Status Check" survey to assess the facilities of electrical safety program and the necessary strategies
for improvement. Workers servicing or maintaining machines or equipment could get seriously injured or
killed if hazardous energy is not properly controlled. Injuries resulting from the failure to control hazardous
energy during maintenance activities can be serious or fatal! Injuries may include electrocution, burns,
crushing, cutting, lacerating, amputating, or fracturing body parts.

difference, electrical safety in industrial plants, list the characteristics of an arc flash hazard,

shock, flash, and blast. To inform craft workers, electricians, machine operators, and laborers

greatest risk of injury. Workers injured on the job from exposure to hazardous energy lose an
average of 24 workdays for recuperation.
