On Wednesday 23rd December 2015,
Islamic Scholar Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri addressed
thousands of people in Lahore, Pakistan.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri asked the world to seekguidance from the teachings of the Holy
Prophet (PBUH) for establishment of peace.
He said that society cannot be established
without justice, fair play, tolerance and
respect for human rights. Corruption,
economic exploitation, violence, injustice
and extremism are the signs of an ill soci-
ety. He said that the Holy Prophet (PBUH)
came as a prophet of mercy and kindness
for the whole of humanity and he alwaysshowed his special affection for the poor
and downtrodden sections of society. He
said that a true follower of the Holy Prophet
(PBUH) cannot perpetrate oppression on
the weak and less privileged people. He
proposed that darkness should be replaced
with light through Zarb-e-Amn (Peace Initia-
tive), adding that there is no space for
conservatives, extremists, enemies of knowl-
edge and peace, terrorists and suicidebombers in any religion.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri asked the youth and stu-
dents with special reference to the birth
anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH),

that they should
make the study oflife of the revered
Prophet an essen-
tial part of their
study for purgation of their inner self and
purity of heart. He further asked them to
make acquisition of knowledge purposeful
and they should do so by considering it the
teachings of the Prophet (PBUH). He asked
the educated youth to save themselves from
the misleading and poisonous influences andideologies of terrorists, extremists and Kha-
warij of present times.
He said that MQI has made its utmost effort
to fulfill its religious, moral, national and
international obligations by designing Islamic
Curriculum on Peace and Counter Terror-
ism. He urged the youth to become ambas-
sadors of peace and play their role to spread
love and peace in every corner of the world.
At the end of his address, Dr Qadri an-
nounced that Zarb-e-Amn (Peace Initiative)
being launched at the popular level is an

Lancashire was hit by severe flooding during the
month of December 2015 when unprecedentedlevels of rain and record river levels left a trail of
destruction & millions of pounds worth of damage.
When the river levels burst through protectivebanks, water surged into the streets of towns andvillages across Lancashire and left thousands ofhomes and businesses flooded. Many homes wereevacuated as streets became rivers and water lev-els rose beyond windowsills. Over 8,000 homes
were left without any electricity or power.
The Met Office said: "Very severe weather conditions are expected. Take action to remain safe and
protect property. Widespread flooding will lead to severe disruption to travel and danger to life.
Pendle Community Radio presenter and Community Worker Faz Patel MBE assisted hundreds offamilies along with many volunteers in the clean up operation and the relief effort within. Communitygroups including Whalley Lions, the Tauheedul Mosque of Blackburn and the Al-Imdaad FoundationUK all did an amazing job and volunteered in helping those affected. As the water subsided fromhouses & streets, residents and volunteers began assessing the damage caused and started the long
cleanup operation with great spirit replacing the shock and sadness.
One heartbroken resident who saw the entirecontents of his ground floor property destroyedsaid, The water came into the house so quickly,we didnt have a chance against the speed of the
water coming in and the high water levels.
He also said: The town is a mess but its great tosee so many people coming together and starting
to clean up the mess the water has left behind.
Another resident affected by the floods said:People of all backgrounds & faiths have shown
great character in dealing with the floods.
He continued with his praise of the great effortsby the entire community by saying, the residentsof this small town have shown the true meaningof community spirit by showing their resilience towhat has happened here and have proven tothemselves and to the rest of the country what itmeans to be a community. I want to thank every-
one who has done their bit, including the coun-cils, the emergency services, the forces and the
hundreds of incredible volunteers.

The conflict in Syria has created one of the most
serious and daunting humanitarian crisis in recent
decades, generating needs across the region that
stretch beyond description. Constant, deadly con-
flict is destroying lives, families and communities.
Today, you will be hard pressed to find a family in
Syria that hasn't been affected by the catastrophe.
Well over one third of Syria's pre-conflict popula-
tion of 22 million is living in hard to reach and
besieged areas, or has sought refuge elsewhere in
Syria. Meanwhile, 1.9 million Syrians are estimatedto have fled to Turkey, 1.2 million to Lebanon,
625,000 to Jordan and 245,000 have gone to Iraq.
As was widely reported in the media, the refugee crisis
stretches well beyond the Middle East, with European
nations, in particular, struggling to cope with the influx of
tens of thousands of desperate and vulnerable children,
women, and men, from Syria and elsewhere.
Pendle Community Radio was assisted by Minhaj Welfare
Foundation, an international humanitarian developmentorganisation in distributing relief aid such as; clean water,
tinned food, rice, tea, sugar, milk, tinned food, warm
clothing, blankets & duvets as well as jackets. This vital aid
was distributed to thousands of refugees and was donated
by the residents of Pendle and the surrounding towns. We
would like to thank all those who donated for this cause.

First of all a very Happy New Year and I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. As 2016 starts we will be thinking where the whole year just disappeared to
and many will be thinking about how fast it flew by. As we enter 2016 there willbe many of you who will have decided to do something different this year andmake a resolution. It is common that people do make them however they onlykeep going and stick to them for the first couple of days or weeks, but as the
days and weeks go by the resolution tends to come to a halt.
Last year I made a few resolutions myself however due to lack of willingness Ionly managed to achieve a few goals. One of them was based on improving myhealth. I enjoy my junk food and I decided that in 2015 I would cut down on myjunk intake. So in order to try and fulfil that resolution I decided to seek helpand advice. I managed to get a personal health trainer and after a couple ofweeks of planning, consultations, setting targets and goals and changing eating
habits, I managed to make a big difference to my health. The targets were smallbut they made a big impact to my life. I successfully managed to make a lifestylechange through this heath trainer service provided by my local council. Thesetypes of goals are not easy to achieve. You do need confidence and the willpower and some support and motivation from family and friends. Whatever newthings you feel you want to do in life, or if you feel you want to start afresh then
it is never too late. Anything is possible. You just need to focus, seek relevant advice from the right people and
you can achieve your goals and ambitions.
I learn a lot in everyday life through experience and I would like to pass these things to the readers too. Iremember a close friend and colleague of mine who had a terminal illness and was told that he would only livefor around 5 more months; however, because of his willingness and will power he stayed another few years.
Unfortunately he died last year but what I learnt from him was that you have to be optimistic about everything. He always did something or the other rather than just sitting at home doing nothing and getting more ill. Hestayed in touch with friends and continued with voluntary work and enjoyed his time till the end. He personallytold me that these sorts of things actually helped him and I think that time flies too fast and we will not be ableto get this time back so its best to make the most of it. I know everyone is busy whether you are working ornot, everyone has something to do however as the year starts, spend some quality time with loved ones, grand-parents, parents, family members and make a resolution on taking some time off for friends, family and lovedones. You may have elderly parents who you may be seeing once a week. Rather than once a week, go seethem more often. These are the things that we wont regret because when people die and loved ones are lost,
thats when you wish that you could go back in time.
For those who have illnesses, have hope, cherish every moment and take each day as it comes. Those who are
healthy look after your health and do something that will make a difference both to your life and to someoneelses life. Whilst writing this article I remembered a very elderly person who has gone back to studying and hascompleted it even though his family said to him that he was too old to go back into education. He has actuallyfinished his studies now and he is now teach-ing. When I asked him what made him go tostudy he said to me that life is all aboutlearning. This taught me that whatever ageyou are, it is never too late to do somethingthat you have always wanted. Take this timeand opportunity to do something you have
always wanted and follow your dreams.
As for me I am thinking of some new initia-tives and I pray that everyone has a blessedand prosperous new year that is full of joy,
happiness and success.
