Sponsorship Proposal
Brisbane, AustraliaSaturday the 1st of July, 2017
PurposeEach year during Ramadan, the Muslim community
spends a month fasting from dawn to sunset. At the
end of the month-long fast, Muslim people celebrate.
Eid-al-Fitr - a festival of breaking of the fast.
This festival, along with Eid al-Adha a few months
later, are two of the most important celebrations in
the Muslim calendar. They allow the global Muslim
community to showcase the very best of their culture,
values, and food all in one epic festival.
Eid Down Under is a celebration of the Eid al Fitr
festival in Brisbane, QLD.
Over 20,000 guests attended last year's Eid
Down Under and 2017 is only going to get bigger!
We were one of Brisbane's largest festivals in 2016.
In addition to fun and celebration, the event
promotes social cohesion and unites the diverse
Muslim communities in Brisbane. It provides a
chance for the Muslim community to connect with
other groups and communities in Queensland,
promoting an inclusive and harmonious Australian
society.
A key objective of Eid Down Under is to promote
cohesion, acceptance and understanding of
cultural diversity and its benefits across the entire
community. And now the story continues in
2017.
About the Celebration
2 EID DOWN UNDER
Eid is one of the biggest celebrations worldwide, with over 1.5 billion
people celebrating annually.
Each year, Eid creates a festive buzz in the Muslim community. Families
present children with gifts, streets are intricately decorated, and hours
are spent in the kitchen preparing the elaborate meals.
In addition to celebration, Eid is a time to remember those who are less
fortunate. The community is encouraged to be a bit more generous and
offer more kindness then they typically would.
Through Eid, the Muslim community seeks to promote a sense of
friendship and compassion with their neighbors. Eid offers an opportu-
nity to celebrate current friendships and create new ones within the
wider community.
Last year we welcomed local and national organizations who shared our mutual interest of adding a bit of color to Brisbane's everyday life. Our sponsors helped up to celebrate one another and come together as a community. These sponsors included:

About us
3EID DOWN UNDER
In 2016, Eid Down Under was proudly hosted by
the Islamic Council of Queensland at the Islamic
College of Brisbane, located at 45 Acacia Road,
Karawatha.
The Islamic Council of Queensland (ICQ)
represents the interests of Muslims from all
backgrounds and denominations in Queensland.
ICQ is a peak body representing 17 mosques
around the state, spanning from the Gold Coast to
Cairns. As a charitable Institution, ICQ is registered
with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits
Commission.
The Council has made significant efforts to
promote community engagement and collabora-
tion over the past two years. They are currently
working towards building a more cohesive
society; one that promotes mutual respect,
understanding and compassion.
The Islamic Council of Queensland has
partnerships and working relationships with
many community organisations. In 2016 guest
speakers were featured at the event, including:
Archbishop Mark Coleridge, The Hon. Grace
Grace MP Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Mayor

Commissioner Ian Stewart (QLD Police) and more.
In 2017, the list is only expected to grow!

“Despite being raised a Catholic in country Queensland, I felt right at
home at a Muslim celebration on Brisbane's southside. It wasn't a
tradition from my childhood or my culture or my religion, but it was still
enjoyable — and the food was delicious.”
