In real world, oral communication becomes very important as we communicate to shared
information and understanding with others. All living thing have their own way to convey
meaning. Even human have their own language and slang due to different places, races and
cultures. Because of these differences, communication problems occurred and cause
misunderstanding and conflicts.
Communication involves at least two parties; speaker and listener. Speakers often tell
information not clearly which then cause listener to get wrong information. Speaker, listener
or both of them can cause the communication problems. It becomes worst when it involved
third party who act as in-between person but carry the wrong messages. Sometimes, third
party is great help as he let listener get the correct meaning from the speaker.
There are several common problems that faced by the speaker which will affect the others to
understand the messages that try to deliver and nervous one of the killer. People normally
cannot speak fluently when nervous comes and some of them become speechless. Lack of
self confident is another problem that difficult to fix. This normally happen when a person
needs to talk in front of others or speak using other language that is he/she rarely used. This
will cause crowd and stage fright. Speaking in front of mirror is better solution for this
problem or you can try to force yourself or your friends to do public speaking frequently so
then you will have courage to do so.
There are speakers that can speak fluently but cannot deliver messages clearly to listener. It
normally because of slang, volume and speed. It good to speak fast if the listener can catch up
your messages but worst when you talking to people who do not master in that language.

They do not get the meaning and will misunderstand with what you want to tell. Different
accent or dialect is problem that we faced almost every day. Listeners can hear different thing
from speaker and as result, conflict will come. As prevention, try to speak using standard
pronunciation that have been standardised in dictionary by phonetic symbols.
As to speak effectively with low risk of conflict, try to follow some simple principles.
Communication needs us to respect each other. If we treat others with respect, they will also
do so and it will become fun and cheerful. Do not interrupt others especially when they give
an opinion as it show that you do not care what they want to say. Just listen carefully and use
the better words to respond to what they tell.
Remember one important thing, we speak for ourselves so do not volunteered to speak or
making decision for others. Using I is the better as it represent ourselves and for decisions,
always stand neutral in and try not to act like we force others to choose. This saves a lot of
unnecessary resentment and resistance towards us. Communication is two-way type, so do
not talk too long and too often. Try to bring other party to talk and respond. This will make it
not too boring and attract others to hear more. To make it interesting, use non verbal aspect
like body language, gesture and posture that will gain listener interest.
Trust is very important as we must respect confidentiality. If do not trust the listener, all
information cannot been tell. If this happen, either try not to talk about something too
confidential or increase your level of trust to the listener. It is okay if there is mistake. If we
done mistakes, ask for forgiveness and if they do it, use the right word to tell them. Blame
normally a poison in communication and shall be prevent. Use the creative and effective
approach to communicating and remove any unnecessary personal labels and destructive
comments because we challenge the behaviour and not the person.
