Sewing Directions:
1. Lay out four bright blue 1½" finished half square triangles (HSTs) and one white 2⅝" square on point.

2. Pin and sew one bright blue 1½" finished HST to each side of one white 2⅝" square on point to create a square in square unit as shown. Press seams toward the bright blue HSTs. Make 40 units.
3. Lay out two white 1½" finished HST and one bright blue 3" finished quarter square triangle (QST).
4. Pin and sew one white 1½" finished HST on either side of the bright blue 3" finished QST to form a flying geese unit as shown. Press seams toward white HSTs. Make 160 units.
5. Lay out four bright blue 2" squares, four flying geese units, and one square in a square unit to create a GO! Diamond Star Block as shown.
6. Pin and sew three rows. Press seams away from the flying geese units.
7. Pin and sew three row units together to form one block. Press seams toward the center row. Make 40 blocks.
8. Lay out four white 1½" finished HSTs and one gray print 2⅝" square on point.
9. Pin and sew one white 1½" finished HST to each side of one gray print 2⅝" square on point to create a square in square unit as shown. Press seams toward the white HSTs. Make 40 units.
10. Lay out two gray print 1½" finished HST and one white 3" finished QST.

12. Lay out four white 2" squares, four flying geese units, and one square in a square unit to create a GO! Diamond Star Block as shown.
13. Pin and sew three rows. Press seams toward the flying geese units.
14. Pin and sew three row units together to form one block. Press seams away from the center row. Make 40 blocks.
15. Lay out alternating blocks in 10 rows of eight using the quilt diagram as a reference.
16. Pin and sew 10 rows. Press seams in alternating directions for each row.
17. Pin and sew 10 row units together. Press seams toward the added rows.
Quilting and Finishing:
1. Layer batting between quilt top and backing.
2. Pin or baste layers together.
3. Quilt as desired.
4. Add gray print fabric binding, mitering corners.

For a full size quilt measuring 84" x 90" make a total of 210 quilt blocks - 105 bright blue/white and 105 gray print/white. Lay out alternating blocks in 15 rows of 14 using the first diagram below as a reference.

Old Maid’s Puzzle Block
1. Join one lime green print and one avocado green solid small half square triangle (HST) together along the long edge to make one HST unit. Press the seam open. Make 4 HST units.
2. Arrange two HST units and two yellow print squares in two rows as shown. Join the squares to the HSTs along adjacent sides and press the seams open. Sew the two rows together, matching the seams, and press the seam open to make a quarter block unit. Make two quarter block units.
3. Join one large red-orange print and one large orange print HST together along the long edges to make one large HST unit. Press the seam open. Make two large HST units.
4. Join one lime green print and one avocado green solid small half square triangle (HST) together along the long edge to make one HST unit. Press the seam open. Make 4 HST units.
5. Arrange two HST units and two yellow print squares in two rows as shown. Join the squares to the HSTs along adjacent sides and press the seams open. Sew the two rows together, matching the seams, and press the seam open to make a quarter block unit. Make two quarter block units.
6. Join one large red-orange print and one large orange print HST together along the long edges to make one large HST unit. Press the seam open. Make two large HST units.
7. Arrange the two quarter block units and two large HST units in two rows. Sew the units in each row together along adjacent edges. Press the seams open. Sew the two rows together, matching seam lines. Press the seams open.

Red & White Cross Block
1. Join one yellow solid and one avocado green solid small HST together along the long edge to make one HST unit. Press the seam open. Make two yellow solid/avocado green solid and two lime green print/avocado green solid HST units.
2. Sew one yellow print and one orange print parallelogram together along one long edge as shown, stopping ¼" from the upper edge. Press the seams open.
3. Sew one yellow solid small HST to each long edge of one joined pair of parallelograms. Press the seams open. Join one yellow solid/avocado green solid HST unit to the parallelograms, placing the avocado green solid side of the HST unit next to the parallelograms. Start and stop the stitching ¼" from the corner of the squares. Press the seams away from the square to complete the corner unit. Make two identical corner units.
4. Repeat step three to make two more corner units, using lime green print small HSTs and lime green print/avocado green solid HST units.
5. Arrange the corner units in two rows as shown. Join the units in each row together, matching seams. Press the seams open. Join the rows together, matching seams. Press the seams open.

4-Patch Block
1. Arrange two red-orange print and two orange print large squares in two rows of two squares each. Sew the squares in each row together along adjacent edges. Press the seams open.
2. Sew the two rows together, matching seam lines. Press the seams open.
Triangles & Squares Block
1. Arrange one lime green print square on point and four yellow print small HSTs as shown.
2. Join the triangles to the square along adjacent edges. Press the seams open. Make a total of two lime green print/yellow print quarter block units.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 with an avocado green solid square on point and four lime green print small HSTs. Make two avocado green solid/lime green print quarter block units.
4. Arrange the quarter block units in two rows of two units each, alternating the units by color. Join the units in each row together, and press the seams open. Join the rows together, matching seam lines.

School Girl’s Puzzle No. 2 Block
1. Join one yellow solid and one avocado green solid HST together along the long edge to make one HST unit. Press the seam open. Make six yellow solid/avocado green solid and four orange print/lime green print HST units.
2. Arrange three yellow solid/avocado green solid HSTs and one avocado green solid small square in two rows as shown. Sew the units in each row together along adjacent edges. Press the seams open. Sew the two rows together, matching seams, to make one A quarter block. Press the seam open. Make two A quarter blocks.
3. Arrange two orange print/lime green print HSTs and two red-orange print squares in two rows as shown. Sew the units in each row together along adjacent edges. Press the seams open. Sew the two rows together, matching seams, to make one B quarter block. Press the seam open. Make two B quarter blocks.
4. Arrange the A and B quarter blocks into two rows as shown. Sew the quarter blocks in each row together along adjacent edges. Press the seams open. Sew the rows together, matching seams. Press the seam open.

Assemble the Table Runner
1. Referring to the table runner assembly diagram, arrange the pieced blocks in one vertical row of five blocks. Place one border strip on either side of each block.
2. Matching the long edges, join the border strips to the sides of each block. Press the seams toward the border strips. Join the bordered blocks along adjacent edges, matching seamlines. Press the seams open.
Quilting and Finishing:
1. Layer the batting between the table runner top and backing, with the wrong sides facing the batting. Pin or baste the layers together. Quilt as desired.
2. Trim the batting and backing even with the table runner top edges.
3. Sew the binding strips together along the short ends, using either straight or diagonal seams. Press each strip in half lengthwise, with wrong sides together. Stitch the binding to the table runner front, matching raw edges and mitering corners. Fold the binding to the table runner back, encasing the raw edges. Hand stitch the binding to the table runner back.

Make the Pencil Blocks
1. Referring to the quilt photo for color placement, select two rectangles (Shape 8) in different shades of the same color. Sew the rectangles together along one long edge. Press the seams open.

2. On the right side of one light tan QST (Shape 4), mark a line ¾" from the point as shown. Cut a 1½" x 2" rectangle the same color as one of the Step 1 rectangles from the remaining fabric. This will be the pencil tip. With right sides together, align one long edge of the rectangle with the marked line. Sew the rectangle to the QST (Shape 4), using a ¼" seam allowance. Fold the wrong side of the rectangle to the right side of the QST (Shape 4) and press.
3. Join a white or off-white small HST (Shape 5) to each short side of the step 2 QST. Trim, then press the seam allowances toward the HSTs. Trim the excess fabric from the color rectangle even with the outer edges of the HSTs.
4. Arrange the joined rectangles from step 1, the QST unit from step 3, one light tan and one medium or dark grey rectangle (Shape 8) as shown. Join the QST unit to the light tan rectangle. Join the medium or dark grey rectangle to the step 1 rectangles. Join the two sections to make the pencil unit.
5. Add one white or off-white rectangle (Shape 8) to each end of the pencil unit to make a pencil block. Repeat to make a total of 6 pencil blocks.
Assemble the Quilt Top
1. Join 7 white or off-white squares (Shape 2) together to make a sashing strip. Make 7 sashing strips.

2. Referring to the Wall Hanging Assembly Diagram, arrange the 6 Pencil Blocks and 7 sashing strips in one vertical row, rotating every other pencil block so that the pencils point in opposite directions. Join the blocks and strips together along adjacent edges.
3. Referring to the assembly diagram for placement, arrange the remaining color rectangles (Shape 8) and squares (Shape 2) around the center pencil block/sashing unit. Join the rectangles and squares along adjacent short edges, making two long side borders of 7 rectangles and 6 squares each, and a top and bottom border of 3 rectangles and 2 squares each.
4. Join one long side border to each side of the center unit, ending the seams ¼" from each edge where the rectangles extend past the center unit. Join the top and bottom borders to the center unit, ending the seam ¼" from the edge where the rectangles extend past the center unit. Fold the borders right sides together at the corners, aligning raw edges, and complete the seams.
Quilting and Finishing:
1. Layer the batting between the wall hanging top and backing, with the wrong sides facing the batting.
2. Pin or baste layers together.
3. Quilt as desired.
4. Sew the binding strips together along the short ends, using straight or diagonal seams. Press the strip in half lengthwise, with wrong sides

Assemble the Qube Pillow
1. Referring to the pillow assembly diagram, arrange the pieced blocks in two intersecting rows. Join the blocks together along adjacent sides, matching seamlines when possible and starting and stopping stitching ¼" from seam ends. Press the seams open.
2. Layer the batting between the pillow top and backing, with the wrong sides facing the batting. Pin or baste layers together. Quilt as desired.
3. Stitch around the perimeter of the pillow top, close to the outer edge. Trim the batting and backing even with the outer edges of the pillow top. Clip into the corners at block seam lines, cutting up to, but not into the seams.
4. With right sides together, align edges of adjacent blocks, matching lettered sides (beginning with A, B, C, etc.) as indicated on the assembly diagram. Pin, then sew block edges together, starting and stopping ¼" from seam ends, to form the corners of the Qube pillow. Backstitch to reinforce the seams. Leave a 3" to 4" opening along one edge for turning.
5. Turn the pillow right side out through the opening. Use a turning tool or ballpoint bodkin to smooth the seams and define corners.
6. Firmly stuff the pillow with fiberfill, making sure to fill each corner. Fold the seam allowances to the inside along the opening and handstitch the opening closed.

Flying Geese Units1. Sew a pink HST (Shape 5) onto both short edges of a white QST (Shape 4). Press
seams towards the pink fabric. Make a total of 6 Flying Geese units.

Parallelogram Geese Units
1. Sew an orange HST (Shape 5) onto both short edges of a dark pink parallelogram (Shape 7). Press seams towards the orange fabric. Make a total of 8 Parallelogram Geese Units.
Assemble the Quilt Top
1. Lay out 12 Square in a Square Blocks, 15 Hour Glass Blocks, 8 Parallelogram Geese Units, 6 Flying Geese Units, 10 orange rectangles (Shape 8) and 4 HST units as shown.
2. Sew units within each column together. Then sew columns together to complete the quilt.

Quilting and Finishing:
1. Layer quilt top with batting and backing.
2. Pin or baste layers together.
3. Quilt as desired.
4. Attach bias binding, mitering the corners.
