Do Now Directions•Working alone fit the triangle tiles together so
that the numbers on the faces that are touching add up to the same total. Ex: 8 + 1 and 7 + 2 both add up to 9 & 4 + 1 and 3 + 2 both add up to 5. You must use all the tiles. Your completed triangle will resemble the picture below.
Students will be able to:1) use the order of operations to solve problems with a 90% accuracy and 2) use order of operations to evaluate algebraic expressions.
Objective:
Reinforcement of Standard 7AF1.2 Use the correct order of operations to evaluate algebraic expressions such as 3(2x + 5)2. (CAHSEE)
Example 1
2[5 + (-30 ÷ 6)²]
Evaluate 4[12 ÷ (6 – 2)]2.
Example 2
Example 3
Evaluate 48 ÷ 23 ● 3 + 5.
Example 4
Example 5Evaluate 2(x2 – y) + z2
if x = 4, y = 3, and z = 2.
Example 6Evaluate 3a- 23 ÷ b if a = 7, and b = 4.
Example 7Evaluate 4c – 2d ÷ c
if c = 2, and d = 5.
Example 8Evaluate d + 6c ÷ 4 if c = 2, and d = 5.
Now You Try
