WEIR OIL & GAS LAUNCHES KEY INITIATIVES TO PROPEL INDUSTRY FORWARD
Offerings Reduce Down Time, Extend Equipment Life, Lower TCO, Enhance Safety
HOUSTON (May 2, 2016)- Today, Fort Worth, Texas-based Weir Oil & Gas, one of the world's largest suppliers of
pressure pumping equipment to the upstream market, announced several initiatives in a multi-faceted strategy that
reflects its commitment to bringing efficiencies to the upstream market.
“Our industry is facing many challenges, but as a business with an almost 150-year history of innovative
engineering, we know the importance of accelerating momentum when times are tough,” said Paul Coppinger,
divisional managing director for Weir Oil & Gas, “markets are changing and our industry needs to adapt by becoming
even more efficient so that it can fully benefit when markets recover.”
“That’s why Weir has increased research and development investment and delivered a broad range of new
products and services which substantially improve our customers’ performance and reduce their total cost of
ownership,” said Coppinger.
Among the Weir Oil & Gas innovations announced at OTC 2016:
A Seaboard™ wellhead solution, engineered in collaboration with customers, to reduce the amount of time,
labor, cost and exposure to risk associated with the installation and operation of the wellhead system. Weir Oil &
Gas has taken a customized approach to designing critical service equipment utilizing a Seaboard™ two-stage,
single bore wellhead system, and mandrel casing hangers through BOP installed lockdown seal assemblies and
the Seaboard™ versatile quick-connect hub. This allows operators to run the pre-assembled wellhead system
through the rotary- table, landing on the conductor, with no flame cutting, welding, grinding or other on-line, time
intensive, installation techniques. This effectively reduces the amount of time, labor and cost, associated with
wellhead installations, while also mitigating risk by reducing time in the cellar below the deck. Weir’s unique
approach to design eliminates lock down screws by utilizing an integral lockdown seal assembly rather than
traditional hanger lock-down screws, subsequently removing multiple potential leak paths.
The Mathena™ Electric-Actuated Choke (EAC) the first hydraulic-equivalent electric drilling choke engineered to
provide precise flow and pressure control in any type of environment, particularly colder ones. This is the third
technology to be launched in the last 12 months as part of Weir Oil & Gas’ intelligent systems, designed to
provide quick and accurate visibility to operational and equipment performance data. The results from this
approach include improved environmental controls for drilling and surface pressure control operations.
The SPM® 2.0 Valve and Seat technology is designed to offer two times more operational life and even in the
harshest of environments. SPM® 2.0 valves and seats offer significant advantages over traditional valves
including reduced vapor fraction, increased impact resistance, and improved flow. This offering was field tested
to deliver a remarkable 50 percent reduction in stress and strain, more than 50 percent reduction in total erosion
and more than 75 percent reduction in seat erosion.
In addition to product innovation, Weir Oil & Gas is moving the industry forward by working in partnership
with other leading solution providers. In conjunction with Rolls Royce subsidiary MTU America, Weir Oil & Gas has
signed an agreement to solidify their joint venture, pending anti-trust. The newly formed company will be named EPIX
and will showcase its first product, a fully integrated power system designed purposely for hydraulic fracturing, at
OTC.
Weir’s latest technologies and innovations will be available during OTC in booths 1849 and 4362 at NRG
Center May 2 - 5.

WEIR AND ROLLS-ROYCE SUBSIDIARY MTU REVEAL THEIR JOINT VENTURE WILL BE NAMED EPIX
The new company will provide the industry’s first integrated system for hydraulic fracturing
HOUSTON (May 2, 2016) Weir Oil & Gas, the world’s leading provider of upstream
pressure pumping equipment, and Rolls-Royce Power Systems subsidiary MTU, a market
leader in heavy-duty industrial power systems based on diesel and gas engines, have
announced their joint venture is to be named EPIX.
EPIX will provide the industry’s first integrated system for hydraulic fracturing.
Commenting as the new company made its debut at OTC 2016, new EPIX CEO Douglas
Schwedland said: “By leveraging the expertise of our founding companies, EPIX will initially
deliver integrated power system solutions that are specifically engineered for hydraulic
fracturing and then apply these same principles of integrated systems to other applications.”
Schwedland has more than 20 years’ experience in the diesel engine and business
systems industries. He most recently served in the dual role of CEO of MTU Middle East FZE
and business development director, Middle East, Africa and Central Asia for Rolls-Royce Power
Systems AG, and has held various leadership positions with Detroit Diesel Corporation, MTU
Detroit Diesel, and Tognum AG.
Schwedland’s vast sales and distribution experience will lead EPIX in its mission to
answer an industry demand for greater efficiency in fracturing operations.
He continued: “The industry is asking for comprehensive solutions that will remain
productive in harsher, continuous operation environments, and we are answering with
innovations that deliver on all levels, from productivity and efficiency to reduced total cost of
ownership.”
EPIX and its founding companies have seen firsthand the demands continuous duty
operations put on fracturing equipment through longer lateral runs, increasing flow rates and
higher pressures.
With engine, transmission, and pump components designed to work together, EPIX’s
first product offering, a purpose-built power system, will optimize longevity and performance,
while lowering total cost ownership for operators during well completion operations.
The system features an MTU FracPack, (Series 4000 engine combined with ZF 8 TX
gear box) coupled with the SPM® QEM 3000 hydraulic fracturing pump. ZF Friedrichshafen
Group, a key supplier to the EPIX solution, developed the ZF 8 TX transmission to work
seamlessly with the engine and pump as a true fully integrated system.
In addition to offering the first completely integrated system for fracking, EPIX is also
