    DIPLOMAINCHEMISTRYPROGRAM

    OBJECTIVES

    TheDiplomainChemistryprogramaimstoprovidethestudentwiththeminimumbackgroundinChemistrytoenablethemtoupgradetheircompetenceinteachingcollegechemistryortopursuemasteralstudiesinChemistry.

    ADMISSIONREQUIREMENTS

    PossessionofaBachelor'sdegreefromanyrecognizedinstitutionoflearningcompletionofatleast20unitsofcollegeChemistryincludingquantitativeanalysisandelementaryorganicchemistry,10unitsofcollegePhysicsand15unitsofcollegeMathematics,includingdifferentialandintegralcalculussatisfactoryperformanceinanentranceexamination,tobeadministeredbytheInstituteofChemistryandinconsultationwiththeNationalInstituteofPhysicsandtheDepartmentofMathematics.

    AllapplicationsforadmissiontotheprogramshallbescreenedandapprovedbytheInstituteofChemistry.

    ADVANCEDPLACEMENTEXAMINATIONS

    Studentsmaytakeadvancedplacementexaminations,tobeadministeredbytheInstituteofChemistry,onanyofthecoursesprescribedintheprogram.Satisfactoryperformancewillwaiveenrollmentinthepertinentcourses.

    OBJECTIVES

    TheMasterofScienceinChemistry(ThesisOption)degreeisdesignedtoprovideacomprehensiveviewofsomeofthemajorfieldsofinterestinChemistryandtodevelopthestudent'sabilityinconductingindependentresearchinhischosenareaofspecialization.Graduatesarepreparedforscientificcareersinacademicorresearchinstitutions,andinindustry,particularlyinresearchanddevelopment.

    ADMISSIONREQUIREMENTS

    PossessionofaB.S.degreeobtainedfromarecognizedinstitutionofhigherlearningcompletionofatleastthirtyfive(35)unitsofcollegeChemistryahighdegreeofintellectualcapacityandaptitudeforgraduatestudyinChemistry.

    ADVANCEDPLACEMENTEXAMINATIONS

    Theapplicantshallberequiredtotakeadvancedplacementexaminations,coveringBiochemistry,Analytical,Inorganic,Organic,andPhysicalChemistry.Studentswithunsatisfactoryperformancemayberequiredtotakethenecessaryremedialundergraduatecourseswithoutgraduatecredit.

    OBJECTIVESTheprogramaimstoprovideadvancedgraduatetraininginchemistrywhichwouldallowsuccessfulstudentstocarryoutindependentresearch,andpursuecareersinacademic,government,researchandindustrialinstitutions.Thesehighlytrainedchemistsareneededinthesolutionofvariousnationaldevelopmentalproblems.
