FFROM THE PRINCIPALROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome to the third edition of our Aveley Informer for 2018. Our school has settled into regular routines for the year with our students demonstrating expected behaviours at school. There is effective learning in our classrooms with staff continuing to build on best practice with the focus of improving the outcomes for all of our students. Best practice includes authentic (real life) learning. We look forward to sharing some of these learning experiences with you in future newsletters. We appreciate the efforts of our whole school community in supporting
our school.

STUDENT LEADERSSTUDENT LEADERS
The Aveley Primary School Student Leadership Team has made a fine start to the 2018 school year. They have taken on their additional responsibilities in a mature manner and are supportive of our school as a whole.
Accompanied by Mr Harvie and parent helpers, our students will be attending a Student Leadership Conference at the Convention Centre on Tuesday 20 March. I’m sure they will enjoy this opportunity.
We thank our student leaders for their efforts and look forward to working with them further as the year progresses.

SCHOOLS AND YOUSCHOOLS AND YOU
The role you play in your children’s education is vital in helping them become happy and confident learners at school. To assist with navigating the best opportunities for your child in our schools, the Department of Education has an informative website which includes a range of information for parents around schooling in Western Australia. Check it out at
https://www.education.wa.edu.au/.
WASTE FREE WEDNESDAYWASTE FREE WEDNESDAY
Waste-free lunches benefit the environ-ment by reducing packaging waste, which in turn reduces energy and re-source use. Participating in a waste-free lunch activity also promotes sustainability awareness among students, parents and school staff. Families are encouraged to support students with our Waste Free
Wednesday initiative.
CONTRIBUTIONS & CHARCONTRIBUTIONS & CHARGESGES
In order to enrich the educational opportunities available to your child, under the Education Act, the Department of Education regulations provide that a school may establish funds to assist in the purchase of library materials, sporting equipment, extra art/craft materials, stationery, learning aids and other incidental materials that render the school’s learning program more efficient. As endorsed by our School Board, our school would appreciate the payment of these as soon as possible.
These contributions are for the whole year and are set at $50 if your child is in Year PP - 6 and $60 if your child is in Kindergarten. They can be paid through our front office, EFT-POS facilities or bank transfer to
Aveley Primary School BSB: 016-352 Account number 1839 11914 Please ensure you include your name in the description when using the internet banking option. Thank you to the families who have already paid their contributions for 2018.

2018 YEAR 6 CAMP2018 YEAR 6 CAMP
Our Year 6 students will be heading to Fairbridge, a former farm school near Pinjarra, on their annual camp in Week One of Term Four. School camps provide a range of opportunities for students to build on relationships with others. They learn about team work, encourage resilience and provide opportunities for students to become more independent problem solvers. For these and many more rea-sons, as from 2019, our Year 6 school camp will be held early in Term 1. More information will be made available to families later in the year. School camps always prove to be a lifetime memory. If you think your child may be hesi-tant in attending camp this year, or in the next couple of years, I would encourage you to begin talking about this experience in a positive way with them. Perhaps have a conversa-tion with your child’s classroom teacher to discuss strategies in preparation for when your child is in Year 6.

We urgently need two enthusiastic people to take on the roles of Fundraising Coordinator and Canteen Coordinator. Fundraising Coordinator will be organising the fundraisers with the help of other P&C members, this includes ordering and shopping, setting up fundraisers, money handling/counting and supervising volunteers.
