DEPARTMENT PROFILE
The Department of Aerospace Engineering was established in the year 1949 as Faculty of
Aeronautics at MIT Campus, for furthering the cause of Aerospace Research in the new born
nation. It was the first department to offer an undergraduate (UG) programme in Aeronautical
Engineering in India. Till date, the Department has been leading the way in propelling indigenous
research in the aerospace field. This has been made possible through the competent, devoted,
efficient and qualified faculty with highly sophisticated state – of – art laboratory facilities. The
department runs one full time UG (B.E. Aeronautical Engineering), three full time PG (M.E.
Programmes in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Technology and Avionics) and two part
time (B.E. Mechanical Engineering and M.E. Aeronautical Engineering) programmes. The
department also offers MS (By research) and PhD research programs in various areas related to
Aerospace Engineering.
VISION OF DEPARTMENT OF AEROSPACE ENGINEERING
The Department of Aerospace Engineering shall strive to be a globally known department,
committed for its academic excellence, professionalism and societal expectations. The
Department aims to impart state of the art technical knowledge, practical skills, leadership
qualities, team spirit, ethical values and entrepreneurial skill to make all the students capable of
taking up any task relevant to the area of Aerospace Engineering.
MISSION OF DEPARTMENT OF AEROSPACE ENGINEERING
The mission of the Department of Aerospace Engineering is to
prepare the students to have a very good fundamental knowledge to meet the present and
future needs of industries.
improve the technical knowledge of the students in tune with the current requirements
through collaboration with industries and research organization.
make the students gain enough knowledge in various aspects of system integration.
motivate the students to take up jobs in national laboratories and aerospace industries of our
country.
take up inter and multidisciplinary research, sponsored and consultancy projects with
industries and research establishments.
encourage the faculty members and students to do research and to be update with the latest
developments in the area of Aerospace Engineering.
