Draw a circle around the sideplate at the lower end of yourpiece of card.
Mark the centre of the circle bydrawing a cross. From the outerleft edge draw a straight line 8in(20.5cm) upwards, and from theopposite side draw a line upwardsmeasuring around 4in (10cm).
Join the longer line to the topcentre of the circle to make atriangle, then join the shorter line tothe circle to make a smaller triangle. You should be able to see thechicken starting to take shape now.
Take a marker pen and drawaround the outline of the chicken, rounding off the corners. Draw asemi-circle where the wings will begoing. (Use a mug or small bowl forthe curve if you’re not confident atdrawing freehand.) Draw a straightline across the bottom to help thechicken stand when finished.
Cut out the shape of the wing fromthe pattern. Now transfer thepatterns to the fabric and cut themout. You will need two bodies & two
wings. If your fabrics have a definiteright and wrong side, flip yourpatterns to cut the second pieces.
Secure the wings to the bodywith repositionable fabricadhesive spray, making sure bothsides are symmetrical, and satinstitch all the way round.
Cut the ribbon into 4in (10cm)lengths and loop, then pin andtack the tail feathers, comb andwattle in place, as shown.
Pin the two sides of the chickentogether, right sides facing, thensew all the way round, keeping thetail, wattle and comb tucked in.Leave a gap of around 4in (10cm)across the base for turning.
Turn the chicken the right wayout and stuff tightly with wadding. Before sewing across the base, push the pouch of rice, sand orcraft pellets into the bottom.
Loop more ribbon into threesfor the feet, and hand sew them tothe base of the doorstop.
For the eyes, thread red yarnthrough a large needle and pushthe needle into the chicken at theback of the neck, pulling the yarninto the neck so it’s not seen.
Direct the needle to the eyearea and pull through both sidesof the head. Tie a French knot oneach side, pulling tight to make a‘dimpled’ effect
