3rd Grade Fall Performance: Pirates! The Musical
on Tuesday, November 15th
3rd grade students entertained with an outstanding performance of
“Pirates!” The Musical on Tuesday, November 15th in the Gym-
nasium. The amazing voices of our 3rd grade students filled the
gymnasium and made us all smile. A special Thank You to the
parent volunteers for the spectacular scenery which made us all
feel a part of the pirate life! Thank you Mrs. Calarco and Ms.
Lopez for all your hard work!! What a fabulous job, Dragons!
College Spirit Day Wednesday, November 16th
Students and staff were encouraged to wear their favorite college
shirt to school on Wednesday, Novem-
ber 16th, in recognition of College
Spirit Day. Mrs. Fortenberry and Mrs.
Alvarado were on the morning an-
nouncements to provide some fun and
informative facts about the University
of Houston—Victoria which is located
right here in Katy! Go Jaguars!!

Davidson In Review
This Week at Davidson (November 14th through November 18th)…
5th Grade Growth and Development Program
On Friday, November 18th, a Growth and Development pro-
gram for 5th grade students was offered at KDE by Physical
Education teachers and the school nurse. The purpose of the
program was to convey to the students the physical, emotional,
and social changes taking place in the pre-adolescent bodies of
both boys and girls. For any questions or concerns, please con-
tact School Nurse, Callie Hildebrand, at 281-234-2525.
PTA Spirit Stick Sale!
Friday, November 18th, students had the opportunity to pur-
chase all new Spirit Stick designs this year. All spirit sticks are
$1.00 and were sold during lunches. PTA also had Davidson
logo Spirit Rings to hold your spirit sticks for $5.00. Missed
the sale? Mark your calendar for Friday, December 9th, when
PTA will be hosting their next Spirit Stick sale during lunch
times.
Read Deed Run Students Collect Food Donations
RDR students collected food donations around Pine Mill
Ranch on Wednesday, November 16th. All food was donated
to Eternal Food Ministries. They will have an outreach this
weekend to help those in need. Thanks to all those who con-
tributed!

Thank You Katy Orthodontics!!
Dr. Dhutia & Team from Katy Orthodontics donated beautiful
colored t-shirts, complete with our awesome Davidson Dragon
logo, to each student and staff member at KDE! The t-shirts
were distributed on Friday, November 18th. Kindergarten re-
ceived red shirts, 1st grade received orange, 2nd grade received
yellow, 3rd grade received green, 4th grade received blue, 5th
grade received purple and the Office Team, Special Programs
Team, Student Support Team, Special Ed Team, Cafeteria
Staff and Custodians received white t-shirts. THANK YOU

2nd Annual KDE Rainbow Photograph A Success!
On Friday, November 18th, KDE students and staff wore their
brightly colored t-shirts provided by Katy Orthodontics and
gathered in the KDE parking lot to form a beautiful Davidson
rainbow. Photographers with Strawbridge Studios were on hand
to capture the panoramic rainbow for KDE. THANK YOU
Strawbridge Studios for the amazing photo!! You Rock!
What’s Happening at Davidson
Week of November 21st to November 25th…
Thanksgiving Break = NO SCHOOL
There will be no school for the Thanksgiving Break: Wednesday,
November 23rd; Thursday, November 24th; and Friday, Novem-
ber 25th. School will resume on Monday, November 28th.
Kindergarten Watch My Scarecrow Grow Program
Ends
The Kindergarten Reading Program “Watch
My Scarecrow Grow” ends on Tuesday, No-

Houston Grand Opera’s The Princess and the Pea
at Fulshear Library
The Fulshear Library is hosting Houston Grand
Opera’s The Princess and the Pea on Wednesday,
November 23rd at 3:00PM for grades 2-8. Seating
is limited. For more details see the attached flyer.
GT/Challenge Services (1st to 4th Grades)
Parent letters went home to all 1st – 4th grade students in Tuesday
folders on November 8th. Parent Checklists will be due by Decem-
ber 9th. There was a GT awareness meeting for grades 1st-4th at the
Educational Support Complex on November 14, 2016. Scan this

Grand Opening and Dedication of
Little Free Library #43807
Located in Pine Mill Ranch
In Memory of Angela Iliescu Come join us at the Little Free Library grand
opening and dedication ceremony on Tuesday,
November 21st at 4:00PM as we honor the life
and memory of Angela Iliescu. Angela was a
student at Keiko Davidson Elementary and she
was a dedicated reader. This beautiful library
was built in honor of her. Through this Little
Free Library she will be able to continue to share her love of
reading with the entire community.
We hope that you can come by the Pine Mill Ranch Clubhouse,
meet with your neighbors and learn about this beautiful new
library. Feel free to bring a book (or two) to help stock the li-
brary. We gladly accept your donated books – it is part of what
keeps the library a vital part of the community. If you have
more books than the little library will currently hold, feel free to
send your book donations to the steward of this Little Free Li-
brary: Crystal Matovich, the Library Media Specialist at Keiko
Davidson Elementary.

Wear White For December Core Essential: JOY
on Thursday, December 1st
Students and staff are encouraged to wear WHITE
on Thursday, December 1st in recognition of De-
cember’s Core Essential: JOY. Finding a way to
be happy, even when things don’t go your way.
The animal is the Cardinal, and the color is white.
The class in each grade level with the greatest per-
centage of students wearing the Core Essential
color will receive the KDE Core Pride Award Cer-
tificate to hang on their door for the entire month! In addition,
classes with 75% participation will be entered into a drawing
for a mystery prize!

Saturday, December 10th

Katy ISD is hosting a Dyslexia Parent Education Night on Tues-

lexia and available resources to support struggling readers.

KDE Spelling Bee
The KDE Spelling Bee will take place during the day
on Monday, December 12th in the Gymnasium.

A View Into Elementary Instruction
A new link for parents of elementary students has been added to
the new District Parents site (http://www.katyisd.org/parents/)
under the tab titled “CURRICULUM.” The title of the link is A
VIEW INTO ELEMENTARY INSTRUCTION and contains videos
describing balanced mathematics and balanced literacy, Pre-K
through Grade Five mathematical instructional videos on a variety
of topics, a sample Intermediate Word Study Lesson sequence,
parent resources for Word Study and Fine Motor Skills/
Handwriting, and access to Elementary Coordinators for parent
questions regarding instructional videos. We’re excited to share
that many of the videos are direct from our own KDE webpage!

TIP: Technology Information for Parents Instructional Technology has created an informational site for
parents, called T.I.P. This site contains instructional videos for
parents on a variety of KISD applications such as Canvas,
MyKaty Cloud, Office 365, technology outages as well as infor-
mation on Digital Responsibility to name a few. The Division of
Technology as well as other departments will continue to add
information to this site to inform parents of the digital tools that

KDE Absence Reporting Form
Davidson Elementary offers the opportunity for parents/guardians
to report their child’s absence via the campus webpage on the
district website. Visit: http://www.katyisd.org/campus/KDE/
Pages/ABSENCE-REPORTING.aspx. You will be able to fill out
the form indicating your child’s absence for that day’s absence
and submit it with a few clicks of your mouse. The information

Celebrate Your Child’s Birthday on
KDE’s Marquee Would you like to celebrate your child’s birthday on the KDE
Marquee? You may now purchase a week of special birthday
wishes for your child! Due to space, a maximum of ten birthdays
each week will be displayed on a first come, first serve basis. The
week will run from Friday to Friday. Pick up a Birthday Marquee
Request Form, choose your week, and send it in to school with
your child.
