Queensland NAPLAN test results continue to improve
NAPLAN summary results for 2017 were recently released
showing Queensland students across the state continue to
improve. Students achieved some of the highest results the
state has ever seen.
These results confirm the long-term trend of rising literacy and
numeracy outcomes across the state, with Year 3 and Year 5
students showing particularly strong performances in reading.
Queensland and Western Australia have demonstrated the
largest growth across most test areas.
For more information, visit the NAPLAN website
(www.nap.edu.au/results-and-reports/national-reports).

New online behaviour tool
The Department of Education and Training’s Autism Hub has
launched a new tool called the Guided Functional Behaviour
Assessment Tool (GFBAT). An interactive online decision-
making tool, it is designed to help teachers ‘think functionally’
about why a student is behaving in a particular way.
Built in collaboration with Griffith University, the tool helps to
identify the cause of a problem behaviour and supports the
implementation of evidence-based strategies to prevent the
behaviour.
The tool can be accessed through the Autism Hub and Reading
Centre website (www.ahrc.eq.edu.au/services/fba-tool).

Last Saturday's market was a great success despite many events being held in the local region over the weekend. Stallholders numbers were down, but the crowds were not with many stallholders reporting positive sales on the day.
With Prep Class rostered to assist for the August market, we are very thankful to the many Prep Class parents and children who assisted on Friday set-up and on the market day. Thank you also to the other class helpers who offered their assistance. Everyone's help was invaluable for both the market operations and the school community.
Special thanks to the Prep Class teacher, Sue Baylis, for her dedication and enthusiasm on the market day. Sue's efforts to take the time to talk with stallholders noting their opinions and feedback was sincerely appreciated. This information is valuable to the future operation of the markets and will help to ensure a pleasant market experience for all.
We were pleased to trial for the first time, live music by "Didgera'. Feedback from stallholders and the public, was all positive and helped to enrich the market atmosphere.
A reminder the next market is on Saturday 23rd September with Class 6 rostered to assist.

Under 8’s Day Recounts
Under 8’s Day
I went to under 8’s Day. My
grandma came with my brothers
and I. It was held in the hall.
At under 8’s Day I did lots of fun
things. I went on the obstacle
course and visited the fire
brigade. I liked dressing-up the
best!
It was a fun day for me and my
friends. I would also like to thank
the awesome Year 3’s for
painting the amazing backdrop!

2017 Under 8’s Day
The 2017 Under 8’s day was a blast! There
was so much to do! As usual, we held it in
the school’s multi-purpose hall. It went from
9 o’clock to 12 o’clock. Classes P-2 enjoyed a
wonderful time. Miss Hardy’s Year 3’s [me!]
were lucky enough to come along and be
able to help. It was absolutely amazing!
First, there were the BeeBots. They are
programmable robots. If you were to press
one or two direction buttons, it would follow
those directions on the BeeBot mat.
Secondly, there was the photo booth. [That
was our idea!] The Grade 3’s were the
photographers. We also painted a forest
backdrop and took photos of everybody.
Thirdly, there were the animals. They were
so cute! There were budgies, chickens,
sheep, goats and much more.
There were many more activities, but it
would take forever to name them all! I was
ecstatic about it when I was told I could go!
The 2017 Under 8’s day was the best yet!

Julie & I would personally like to say a big thank you all of the
parents that are using QParents to enter their information and
paying invoices via BPoint. We have 61 families using the app. This
system has been created to take the hassle out of notifying the
school of absences and paying invoices whilst easing the workload
on the admin staff.
The advantages of the QParents app are:
Enter student absences at a time that is convenient
Pay invoices on-line
Calendar events—get notifications of your childs’ upcoming
events
Enrolment History
Report Cards as soon as they are created and previous report
cards
Behaviour reports
The feedback we get from parents using the app is very positive as it
is easy and convenient to use.

and must be provided by the parent or carer.
Student Attendance/Absence
ABSENTEEISM
All Students are required by law to attend school every day.
When your child is absent from school you are required to notify the
school re absence and the reason for the absence.
The school is required by law to follow up every absence that is
unexplained daily. You will receive an SMS from the school as a
reminder.
Unexplained absences of 3 days or more will be followed up by a
phone call from the school.
Persistent unexplained absences will result in a system generated
letter being sent home.
Parents planning to take students out of school for 10 days or
more are required to make an appointment with the
Principal through the office and complete official exemption
from compulsory schooling paperwork.
This is well below the expected school attendance rate
is having a massive impact on students’ learning.
