Vantablack is an ultra black absorptive coating consisting of a vertically aligned carbon nanotube forest.
It holds the world record as the darkest man-made substance and maintains its industry leading performance across a wide bandwidth from UV to FIR.
It is produced using a proprietary Photo Thermal chemical vapour deposition process operating at temperatures as low as 4300C.
KEY FEATURES• World’s darkest manmade substance
• Total hemispherical reflectance 0.036% at 700nm
• Excellent BDRF performance
• Low temperature coating process 4300C
• Does not outgas
• Extremely resilient to shock & vibration
• Wide operating temperature range -1960C to 4000C
• Can be optimized for Lambertian or specular reflectance
• Non-ITAR
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Vantablack is used for stray light control in a wide range of systems, for example as an energy
absorbing coating for light/beam dumps, an absorber layer for thermal and optical sensors, and as
a blackbody calibration standard. It has also proved popular for its unusual aesthetic properties in
the creation of high-end jewellery and timepieces, as well as in unique works of art.

OTHER CHARACTERISTICSSuitable substrate selection Suitable substrates will generally exhibit a melting point circa
5500C or above, with negligible volatile constituents. Please enquire about specific materials.
Handling considerations Component design should incorporate suitable features to allow handling and also fastening during transit
Shape / form considerations 2D and external curved surfaces can be coated.
As-supplied form Preferred option is for coating to be deposited directly to target component(s), however Vantablack can be supplied on an aluminum foil substrate for customer application.
