Principal’s Message
At Daniel Webster Elementary we are dedicated
to providing our students with the knowledge,
skills, and character development essential to
succeed in school and beyond. Learning is our
top priority. We work tirelessly to make sure
all students have what they need to succeed,
especially resources for those who have
historically not had the opportunity to reach
their goals.
“Learning Together” is our school motto.
We realize that to succeed, students, staff
and families must work well together. “Learning
Together” also means caring for one another.
We firmly believe that students achieve more
when the larger community is involved in their
education. At Daniel Webster, we strive to
create positive changes for both our students
and our larger community. Our school garden
provides an example: constructed together with
the community’s help, it symbolizes the growth
that we’ve made as a school over the last
several years.
We look forward to growing and Learning
Together with your child and you!

Our Mission
We strive each day to create a cohesive,
cooperative learning environment that celebrates
our diversity. We expect our students to
graduate with a love of learning, respect for
themselves and the many rich cultures that
make up our world, and academic excellence
in all disciplines. To that end, Daniel Webster is
dedicated to:
» providing a challenging, exciting and relevant
learning experience for all students
» helping students achieve excellence in
academic performance so that each student
reaches his/her highest potential
» maintaining a safe and nurturing educational
environment
» ensuring adequate funding to support an
enriched and unique curriculum
» promoting positive interactions among our
diverse population
Curriculumdaniel Webster teaches the California state
core curriculum, and offers two distinct
language pathways.
The english Language development pathway teachers use English throughout the day and are specially trained to support all children, whether they speak English or another language at home, in developing strong English-language skills.
The Spanish Immersion pathway teachers use Spanish throughout the day to ensure all students are bilingual and biliterate by the end of 5th grade. The program is composed of children who speak English, Spanish or another foreign language at home, as well as bilingual students. Currently Spanish Immersion is taught in grades K through 4 and will incrementally expand to higher grades with each passing year.
academic Support and Literacyreading Partners We are pleased to work with reading Partners, a nonprofit organization that matches community volunteers with struggling readers. Students receive two 45-minute, one-on-one tutoring sessions each week with a trained volunteer.
Learning Support Professional Daniel Webster benefits from the on-campus presence of a Learning Support Professional who assists students, staff and families with behavioral issues and other challenges that impact learning.
Technology Beginning in kindergarten, our computer teacher instructs students on a weekly basis in a dedicated computer lab. Students work on computers in their classrooms as well.
“My kid loves school. He can’t wait to go to school every day. The magic of learning is happening in his classroom. I’m thrilled.”

Family and Community InvolvementWe are a small community of thirteen classrooms serving K–5 students. Our warm and caring teachers and staff are dedicated to providing students with high academic standards in an environment that validates their potential and their cultures. We attribute our success to our “partnership” philosophy, where every member of the DW community—our administration, parents/guardians, students, teachers and staff—contributes to our successes and faces our challenges together. We are a community heavily supported by Potrero hill’s local residents, Potrero Kids at Daniel Webster Preschool and PrEfund.org.
Our PTA is growing by leaps & bounds. Parental involvement is the top indicator of student success so we encourage all parents to join PTA at any level—we place an equal value on donations and volunteering. Last year we grew to over 90 members and raised $100,000. We run the popular annual Taste of Potrero which showcases local food and wine to support our school. The PTA funds a variety of programs including PlayWorks and reading Partners. Monthly meetings welcome all and include child care, translation and dinner.
afterschool ProgramsDaniel Webster offers two after school programs, After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) and Child Development Center (CDC). Both are open Monday through friday from the end of school to 6pm. There is also before school support and CDC is open during the breaks for winter, spring and summer. Both have had spaces available for all interested students and are needs based. The programs reinforce the regular school curriculum, especially our literacy focus, offer enrichment classes, provide time and help for homework, and build social and physical skills. ASEP’s enrichment classes include Arts, Creative Story Telling, Tree frog Treks, gardening, Brazilian Dance and more.
We are dedicated to providing students with knowledge, skills, and character development essential to succeed in school and beyond.
