2013-2014 CSS PROFILE HELP SHEET
Allocate 20 minutes to complete this form. To make the process easier it would help to have your 2012
tax return and W-2, current bank statements, and other financial statements on hand while you complete
the CSS Profile.
SCHOOL CODE
The CSS code number you must enter for your form to be sent to our office at the Stanford Graduate
School of Business is 0265.
TIME PERIODS
Several questions ask you to indicate your income based on specific time periods. When the CSS Profile
application requests annual or estimated year income (Section SI), please use calendar year information
(January 1 – December 31). We define summer as June 15, 2013 – September 20, 2013. We define the
academic year as September 21, 2013 - June 12, 2014. Please use these dates for the summer and
academic year to answer questions on the CSS Profile application and be sure that you do not combine
any income source into more than one time period.
TAX FILING
If you have not yet filed your income tax return or statement, you should estimate your income and other
tax data to the best of your ability in order to complete the profile by the suggested filing date. To assist
you in your estimation, you may want to use your prior year’s tax return and your end of the year pay
stubs or W-2’s.
INCOME
Always include the gross, pre-tax, amount when listing income from any source. For second year
students, ESP income and SMIF should be included as income. Please complete all questions including
the supplemental questions in section SQ. Include summer wages in the question about your 2012
income even though you may also have reported summer income in #SR-110. It will not be double
counted.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
International Students should apply through the Global CSS Profile application. The application will
allow you to enter your income and asset information in your home currency. The Global CSS Profile
will require you to file in parental information. The GSB does not take parental information into
consideration, but you will be required to fill in the basic demographic information for your parents and
then you can fill in zero (0) for all income and asset information.
FOREIGN INCOME AND ASSETS
For domestic students, convert all foreign income to US dollars. For international students completing the
Global CSS Profile, you can use foreign currencies.
If you are an international student and filed or will file a tax return in any country or if someone on your
behalf (e.g. Employer) filed or will file for you, enter in the equivalent information for each question even
if it is tailored to US citizens and their work situation.
