AIRFRAME STRUCTURE
The fuselage is a semi-monocoque, all-metal, damage-tolerantstructure, using an aluminum alloy, chemically milled skin withriveted stringers and frames.The forward fuselage contains the radome, flight compartment,forward pressure bulkhead, forward avionics bay, main passengerentrance and support mountings for the nose landing gear.The center fuselage contains the passenger compartment, mainavionics bay, forward cargo compartment, and the structural wingattachment.
CRJ705/900: a 90 in (229 cm) structural plug is installed forwardof the wing box on the center fuselage section.
The rear fuselage contains the pylon structure, rear pressurebulkhead, cargo compartment, support structure for the verticalstabilizer, the aft equipment bay and tail cone.
CRJ705/900: a 62 in (157.5 cm) structural plug is installed aft ofthe wing box on the center fuselage section.

Typical aircraft servicing includes general replenishing ofconsumables as well as scheduled and unscheduled servicing.The aircraft is normally controlled by using a nosewheel steeringsystem. The aircraft can also be controlled without the steeringsystem by the use of differential thrust and braking. Themaximum steering limit when taxiing is 80° either left or right sideof center.The aircraft can be pushed or towed with the tow bar connectedto the axle of the nose landing gear (NLG). The steering torquearms may be connected or disconnected depending on towingequipment used. The nosewheel steering system switch must beselected OFF before towing. An approved tow-barless towingvehicle may also be used.A dual pin quick disconnect mechanism, integral to the uppertorque arm, connects the upper and lower torque arms.The recommended steering angle limit when towing is 70° eitherside of center with torque arm connected or disconnected.Disconnection isolates the steering collar and the steeringactuators, preventing damage to the steering actuator system.When disconnected, the spring-loaded torque arms separate androtate into a safe fixed position to maintain its position clear of thenose wheels and the aft door during towing.Landing gear lock pins must be installed when the aircraft is onground. Grounding lugs or receptacles are installed at landinggear, wing and refueling panel locations.

The aircraft is provided with a forward and aft class C cargo orbaggage compartment with access by manually operated doorson the left side of the fuselage. An underfloor compartment holdsventilated equipment racks on the left and right sides with a lowerfuselage access door along the fuselage centerline.
AFT CARGO / BAGGAGE COMPARTMENTThe aft cargo compartment provides sufficient space for thestorage of cargo and passenger baggage.A restraint net is installed across the cargo door entrance toprevent baggage from blocking the door if shifting occurs duringflight.The cargo compartment has two smoke detectors and a fireextinguishing system installed on the cargo compartment liners.
