HarvestApproximately 4 weeks before conventional combining stage.
CrimpLightly bruise the grain or seed through a crimp machine.
ClampStored in a clamp the grain or seed is ready to feed.
What to crimp?Awidevarietyofcropscanbeharvestedasamoistcrimpedfeed:• Cereals–starchandenergyconcentrate• Legumes–proteinandenergyconcentrate

When to crimp?Whenthegrainisreadyforcrimping:
• Itwillbedifficulttosqueezebetweenthumbandforefinger.
• Pressurewithathumbnailwillleaveanindentationinthegrain.
• Thepictureoppositeshowstheidealcropstage.
The ear and stem will be mainly yellow with some green on the stem. Approximately 70% of the crop should have grain texture as described above, to get an average dry matter between 60-75% over the whole crop
When to crimp?
