A- Aims: I- Establishment of a strong background on basics of quantum mechanics. ٢- Understanding the ideas, tools, and rules of quantum mechanics.
٣-Utilizing the rules and approximation methods of quantum mechanics to study some applications.
B- Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs): Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to ١- Solve the Schrodinger equation in three dimensions for hydrogen atom.
٢- Describe and explain energy levels of hydrogen and hydrogen-like atoms.
٣- Apply the formalism of quantum mechanics to predict and understand the behavior of physical systems.
٤- Acquire an understanding of the spin and use the elementary theory of spin and orbital angular
momentum to represent quantum states. ٥- Describe and apply standard approximation techniques used in quantum mechanics.
٦- Master the idea of time-independent perturbation theory and interpret fine structure, hyperfine structure,
Zeeman effect, and Stark effect. ٧- Master the idea of time-dependent perturbation theory and interpret emission and absorption of radiation
by hydrogen atom.

A- Attendance policies:
Class attendance is expected. Past experience has shown that students who do not attend the lectures
invariably receive poor grades. A student whose absence exceeds ١٥% of lectures will be dismissed.
B- Absences from exams and handing in assignments on time: Absence from exams without an acceptable excuse means ZERO. Some homework assignments will be graded. Some problems will be selected and discussed in an extra lecture for every chapter.
C- Health and safety procedures: No special precautions.
D- Honesty policy regarding cheating, plagiarism, misbehavior: All these issues will be considered according to the regulations and laws adopted at the University of Jordan.
